Southern California - CICLE Toys and Mittens Ride REI Dec 1

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Everyone is invited to cruise into the holiday spirit on Saturday, December 1, 2007 for the Holiday Toys and Mittens Ride. The Toys and Mittens Ride kicks-off the new Urban Expeditions program, a year-long series of monthly community-focused bicycle rides presented by Cyclists Inciting Change through Live Exchange (CICLE), and sponsored by R.E.I., that encourages residents to explore their neighborhoods on two-wheels.

The Toys and Mittens ride will gather toys and warm articles of clothing from local businesses that currently are collecting much needed winter items for families in need. Each year, the Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services gives these toys and warm layers to local families and children. Drop by Helen’s Cycles Arcadia, Monrovia Coffee Company, Stan’s Monrovia Bikes, or 24 Hour Fitness Arcadia now through November 30, 2007 to donate toys, warm gloves, hats, and socks to support the Toys and Mittens Ride.

Join the Toys and Mittens ride at REI Arcadia at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 1st, for a fun-filled and family friendly day. The relaxed-paced ride will wind through the neighborhoods of Arcadia and Monrovia, and will include stops for toy pick-ups at participating merchants. Enjoy holiday tunes and free yummy baked goods from Scratch Cookies and Bakery. All toy and clothing donations should be delivered new and unwrapped.

The Toys and Mittens Ride is FREE. Registration begins at 10:30am and ride departs at 11am. Meet at REI Arcadia: 214 N. Santa Anita Ave., Arcadia, CA, 91006. For more information visit: www.bikenow.org or call 323-478-0060.

Suggested gift items include new and unwrapped toys, warm gloves and hats for children (especially the hats with ear flaps).

I hope that some of you reading here can make this ride. It's an especially nice one to take the little ones on. Last year I decorated my bike as many will do this year, too, I'm sure.

Even hats and gloves from the 99cent stores are appreciated.

So there will be free lunch (pizza and lasagna donated by Zelo Cornmeal Crust Pizzas in Arcadia) in the park post ride.

I will be there early to hand out waivers to the riders...

Come by and put a thumbtack on my saddle or whatever...

Donner Party ride?

What's that all about?

I've got a long mtb ride planned for Saturday morning (The annual ESRI "Hell Ride"), just over the hill from Big Bear.

Thanks for posting this, my daughter is not comfy enough for a ride like this but we will likely drop by REI in the morning before the ride reparts.

Well that's the park we'll be at, too, so we all may run into each other...

Hope the sun shines for your daughter's special day!

Good seeing you, Alice! Happytime - sorry didn't get a chance to check this thread again yesterday morning. It was windy, nippy, but otherwise gorgeous! Ride looked like fun! I was trying to listen in on that guy's seemingly epic speech before your food was served but couldn't get a chance to get close enough. ;)

Great seeing you! When we rode up I couldn't believe we were set up right next to your party...

That cornmeal crust pizza from Zelo? Soo good!

I'm not sure the guy who came in the Santa costume realized that he would actually have to "be" Santa...everywhere we stopped little kids wanted to say hello. LOL...did you know Santa rides a bike now?

Stan's in Monrovia really came through. What a haul from that stop... one of the trailer hitches broke from the weight.

A fun ride for a good cause.
