Utility Cycling - If Santa Clause was a utility cyclist... (pics)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I imagine if jolly old St. Nick was a utility cyclist his ride would look something like this:

Yes, my workshop really is that cluttered.

Can you spot the stray roll of electrical tape?

Reflective rim stripes seem to be working!

Better allow at least 3ft when passing or you are automatically on the naughty list.

.

I also posted a video showcasing some of the LED lighting on the trailer @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QlGdIAjwsk

Sorry the video is so blurry, its the video function of a 7y/o digital camera.

Trailer is constructed of 1/2" conduit, various dimensional lumber, and various plywood materials covered in paint and red/gold glitter finish. The wheels were off a 12" kids bike, the "hitch" is a u bolt through my rack, and a clip like a dogs leash (i don't know what they are called?) mounted to the conduit draw bar. It pulls pretty well and it isn't nearly as heavy as you'd think. I made it for the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organizations 2007 Tour De Lights being held December 19th 2007 @ 6PM @ Market Square Mall, Knoxville TN, USA. www.knoxtrans.org for any locals who might want more info.

The lights are 2 batter powered strands of white LED chaser lights and 2 led spot lights to illuminate the 'share the road' sticker.

It is still a work in progress, but I had to share.

Do you wear a reindeer costume with antlers on your helmet when towing this? How about a red blinkie on your nose? ;)

Definitely cool.

What clutter? In the photo it looks like you could see anything there that you might be looking for, without having to move 4 or 5 other things.

Thats pretty damned awesome.

Reminds me of years ago when my friends and I made rickety trailers to tow eachother, usually into things...
