Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello from Texas, Ya'll...

I just turned 50 on November 13, then rode in my first century last Saturday (the El Tour de Tucson). Nobody thinks I look 50, and nobody thought I could ride 109 miles on a bike in one day. They were wrong on both counts! ;)

Congratulations, and welcome to the over 50 club.

Also, congrats for your Team In Training involvement. Wonderfully successful money raising. My GF did the Tahoe ride last June.

Doing a century is one of the great milestones in your biking experience. Hitting 50 is a major milestone in your life. You need to remember them both.

Congratulations! And keep it up.

I hit both of mine this year too. But I couldn't take the hoopla of both in the same month, let alone the same week. So with the birthday in June, I waited to October for the century. They've each changed my perspective on a lot of things. I'm sure they will for you too.

Next thing you know, you'll ride 100 miles without 3000 friends........

From my count they were probably right on one and wrong one one - that is, unless as Dnvr says - you look 80:D

Otherwise - celebrate your success! Now you can set your sites on many more because the accepted wisdom around here is that you must do at least 3 centuries to really prove that you can ride over 100 miles. So - no relaxing, you have a lot of work to do:)

Congratulations and well done! :beer::bday:

You just never know what kind of surprises life has in store: I recently celebrated the 3rd anniversary of my 50th birthday and my 14th century in 19 months. Who'd'a thunk it? Certainly not I.

Life just keeps getting better and better!

I hope this is the start of your best decade EVer.

Welcome, and congrats on the Century!

Traditions have to be kept up- Ride your age- Train, and if possible, do a century and eat Pie.

You only look 80 about 15 minutes after you finish. Till then adrenalyn works.

Eagerly awaiting the pie report.

Well done

Thanks to all of you for your birthday wishes and your congratulations.

As far as doing more centuries, you bet I will. One of my Team In Training teammates has a goal of doing 10 centuries in 2008. He is 30ish, so I don't think I will join him in each and every one of those rides, but I do plan on doing at least 4-5 next year, including a century ride in Hawaii (with TNT), and the Hotter'n Hell Hundred in Witchita Falls.

While my legs are strong, I plan on working out in the gym (I am a firefighter) this winter to build up my upper body and stamina more. I know I can do several century rides next year, no problem, but I want to do them faster than the first (about 9.5 hours).

Again, thanks for the kind words and encouragement.

Great job childs!!

My daughter recently moved to Tucson and said folks were late getting to work because of the nice job the officials were doing helping cyclists through intersections for the ride. I might have to drive out and do a daughter visit and the bike ride in '08! If you're back out and have time try the Mt Lemmon climb. Not very steep but uphill for about 25 miles with incredible views.
