I'm not sure what you are looking for, but the Grand Illinois Trail (http://www.bikelib.org/trails/git/) is a 475 mile loop around the north part of the state. It does go through the Chicago area, but if you wouldn't have to ride the entire thing.

And here (http://www.trailresources.com/il80.html) is a webpage with information about dozens of trails.

Give us a better clue as to what you want. How long a trail? Is it a multi-day ride? Will you be camping? etc. etc. etc.

Illinois Prarie Path and Fox River Trail (~50 miles) is pretty nice (my old stomping grounds). Also one you might like which I spent a lot of time on is the Great Western Trail which does connect to the IPP. Both of these are reached from the western suburbs. The DuPage Co. portion of the IPP trailmap can be found at this link (http://dupageco.org/bikeways/trailGuide.pdf).

Wow! Looks like a lot of the GIT is a bunch of interconnections to many of the trails and routes I used in my youth. What I wouldn't have given to have had that 15 years ago! Hmmm... maybe I should plan a nostalgia ride the next time I visit family.

Illinois is a pretty big state. Any idea of where in Illinois you'll be going to?
