Maybe.

The Brickfish Shutter-Stopping Sports Challenge Scholarship is open to students who are at least 14 years of age. To be eligible for this award, you must submit your best, original sports action shot on the Brickfish website.
I've got 12 4gig DVD's full of photos to go through, not all of which are sports but you get the idea...
These are some front runners from off the top of my head. Thoughts?

The kid is the best of those 3, i took a look at the other entries... sure the kid pic is well taken but its not really EXTREME, like some of the bmx pics on the site.

I don't think thats a necessity...
*edit*
I see where you're getting that. Sports action doesn't mean "BONE CRUNCHING FACE SMASHING ACTIONNNNNNNNNNN"

#1. The kid's eyes are on that ball. There is joy on his face that he's about to catch the fly ball.
Great shot.
Get that scholarship.

I think the baseball one really shows the true meaning of PLAYING a game. It shows the innocence of fun, not sports for just competition only. Character building sports. The joy and pride in catching that ball. :)
#3 won an award because of his expression; great image.
Loving the motion blur in the second as well, hard image to take.
The first is simply a classic shot, continue to use it as the opener.
Good luck on the scholarship.

All are great shots, Timmy. But for some reason I connect with the baseball one more.
I agree. The first one is the best.
It is the only one that is really "different" than many others you see. You need one that stands out.
Really nice work Tim. all are nice, I like the one of the kid, then the soccer player, then the runner, in that order. Best of Luck! If it is something where you need votes, let us know.

I thought the contest was about the best picture, not how many friends you have.
#1 and #3 are composed the best. Too bad you can't 'shop out the second guy in photo #2, otherwise that would be my favorite. I prefer #3, to me #1 is a bit cliche and I would think there could be many shots like that in the competition.

Re: #3:
While it's a great shot of an player who has headed a ball, the only complaint I have with #3 is that it lacks context. Where are the other players? Was he battling for that header? Is he on offense or defense? Is he crossing the ball, or heading out of his own zone?
That said, it already won an award, so what do I know?
With #1, it's understood that a fielder is not going to have anyone around him if he's chasing down a pop fly, so the context is implied by the ball heading for his outstretched glove and he's thrilled and a bit nervous about the impending out. Plus, the eyes on the elephant on his jersey mirror the boy's wide-eyed excitement. And the stitching on the ball can be seen, as well as all details of his glove.
There may be lots of shots like this, but are they this well composed, timed, and in focus?

You do very good work.
I checked out the site and didn't find any as good as yours, surely none that blow yours away. Problem is it looks like only a couple of prizes, but worth a shot.
I've noticed most have comments. I think the Kid is the best for the contest of the 3 you posted. The track shot is impressive however. Again think of your comment. Sell the kid as the childhood joy of sport is the core of sport or something like that. The selling may well make the difference.
If you have any impact sport photos, just before or just after impact, of the quality of the track shot try them also. If you have one of impact at goal line or a soccer gollie shot where it is clear he will get the ball, but unclear if he will get enough of it use that too.
Oh and be aware someone somewhere will have the shots I mentioned. If someone has one of those with the quality of your shots I think one of those will win.

I'm with those who voted 1, I think it's a really nice photo. Agree with Keith99, looking at the photos on your link (ordered by rank) I didn't see anything that outshone yours. I like photo 1, it feels like there's a story behind the picture. Looking forward to seeing more if you post them.

Well thank you.
I've posted a ton 'round here. You can look at some Here (http://www.pbase.com/timmyquest). Most of it's crap but some of it's not.
