Classic & Vintage - help! need colnago expertise

I've inherited a Colnago Master Olympic Decor that I want to sell, and I have absolutely no idea where to even begin writing a decent ad for it. I do have some idea as to the value of the bike, but would welcome any appraisals. If anyone out there could identify the approx. year of the bike and provide me with any pertinent details I would need to include in the ad, I would be GRATEFUL (I am truly in the dark when it comes to technical lingo). I'm afraid that I can't offer any information whatever on the bike (I haven't really dipped my toe into things Italian), but I can tell you that Colnagirl would be an awesome username.

I saw a similar frame and fork only sell for about $600 recently, so a complete bike you should easily get over a thousand for it. Er I mean, yeah, not really worth anything, might as well send the frame to me!

You'd probably be better off parting it out, as the components are from different periods. It appears it's been upgraded a few times (newer shifters, newer brake calipers, newer pedals). Also, the brifters for instance show a significant amount of road rash which would detract from the value of the bike.

I'd disassemble it (carefully so as not to strip or damage anything), clean the frame and fork well, and give it a good polish and wax. Then, clean the components as well and sell them separately.

Of course, this is more work, but it will maximize your value.

It is very dirty, and the components seem to be all over the place. If it was an all Campagnolo bike, I'd say sell it whole, Shimano, not so much (and I'm a Shimano fan).

I am hardly an expert, but I agree about the parting out for maximum profit.

you're in luck as there are several knowlegable guys in BC who might be willing to help you. I think it could be kept as a complete (mostly Dura-Ace) bike and sold at a tidy profit, if all that work involved in parting out and making it into a big eBay project is more work than you want. It sure needs a cleaning and going-over, but it's a blingy bike, a popular make and a popular size and will certainly sell fast. I'm sure some C&Ver in BC can at least help you write a good description for a CL ad, once they see it in person.

Hello, I am in Vancouver, and as far as I know I am the only Hard Core C&Ver from Vancouver on the forum. There are a couple others but they are more into the FGSS forum I think. You are in luck, if you want the greatest return to effort ratio Craigslist Vancouver is your friend! As other have said ebay will be max profit for max effort. If you'd like I can appraise the bike for you send me a personal message if you like.

Okay I just looked over the photos: for a decent craigslist add, you'll need the frame measurements so you don't get a million annoying emails that just say: "what size is it?". Then of course a detailed listing of what components it has, how many speed... if everything works etc. It looks like the brake calipers are an upgrade. I think you could sell it without having to wait too long for $800. You could go $900 or $1000. I am a mechanic also so I could also tell you what needs to be done on it. If it were cleaned and tuned it'll definately sell easier because a very large part of the market is looking for a bike they can start riding immediately, not one they have to take to the shop. I could clean and tune it for you for a modest fee. Say I get to keep the saddle that is on it and I'll put a generic one on from my bin of saddles:D.
