The Salsa Toastadas are some of the least expensive lobster gloves on the market, and they're also the only lobster gloves sold in the U.S. that seem to return nothing but positive reviews when I search this forum or Google. I want them... but I have no idea where to find them in XL. Jenson has them in small and medium only. So does Universal Cycles. That's all I can find. I'm told they're being discontinued, along with Craft's lobster gloves, which I guess leaves the ugly-as-sin Louis Garneaus and the widely disliked Pearl Izumis as the only reasonably priced lobster gloves on the U.S. market. Damn.

Can anybody recommend an alternative pair of lobster gloves that can be found in the U.S.?

Or better yet... do any of the Canadians here on BF feel like going to your local MEC, picking up some XL size Nanu lobster gloves, and selling them to me by mail?

There were about 3-4 pairs at my LBS a couple weeks back.

I would simply go to the MEC website, find their toll-free number, call and order a set. I bet you $1.104 that they would ship them no problem.

MEC will ship to the U.S., but the base international shipping is high and then the site has this scary disclaimer about how you'll have to pay customs charges that will be sent to you by the government later, and they have no idea how much it will be. I don't really want to risk paying $70 or something for a pair of gloves.

The duty should be minimal. When we order stuff from the US, there's a 6% duty charge, so I imagine the percentage going the other way is the same or less. As far as the brokerage, we don't usually pay brokerage for things under $50, so I doubt you will either. The shipping charge is fairly high [$20 for a $38 item], so order 5 pair. ;)

This is the sort of thing that we typically have to deal with when we order from the US. It's often cheaper to have items shipped from the EU and Asia than from south of the border, especially due to the vicious brokerage fees that UPS and Fedex charge. Welcome to NAFTA. :D

Shipping can be utterly ridiculous.
I recently tried to order a case for my mp3 player from Creative off their website. $19.99 USD for the case..
$34 USD for shipping it. A tiny little piece of plastic.

Good thing I didn't bother, because there was a Canadian website selling it for $9.99, and the shipping was $1.08

Depending on how they ship, it might or might not be worth it. You'll probably end up paying a lot more than what you could in the US. I think you also still need an MEC membership in order to order, even online. For what its worth though, the Nanu are some *good* gloves.
