Hi !
I want to build a SS hub for a bike that has vertical dropouts (1993 Merlin). I decided that the ENO is not an option ($$$) so my current options are:

1. Use a cassete hub and install a specific SS cog
2. Buy a specific SS hub.

I will probably use the Paul chain tensioner (looks like the best there is .. isnt it ?) but I'm also thinking about the 'Magic Gear'

What do you say ? What option should I choose ?

forget about the 'magic gear' stuff. can't change ratio easily. why not use the wheel that's already on there? you can always throw the cassette back on if you're not down with the SS -- hell, keep the rear derailleur on for the time being to see if you like it.

just pony up the dough for an ENO, you wont regret it. on the other hand you absolutely WILL regret NOT getting the ENO after you blow too much money on parts that wont really work right.

I'd use a cassette hub and get yourself a half link or two to dial in the tension. Works great for me.

hell, keep the rear derailleur on for the time being to see if you like it.

Singleator or ENO FTW.

Singleator if you're broke or never want to go fixed.

ENO if either of the above aren't true.


The paul tensioner is stupid expensive (though nice), you might as well get an ENO.
