Hello!

Just got back into riding about 1 month ago after getting ripped off by a so called "mate" at work. (US$170 for a 1999 Giant Boulder!....stoopid!) Anyway, it been 10 years or so since I last rode (went off a jump with my BMX and hit a tree and broke my leg) but I have been bitten by the bug again.

So I pulled my finger out and went a bought a real bike (compared to the boulder anyway). I went in looking for a 2003 Giant XTC-Se2 and ended up buying the 2004 model for the price of a run-out 2003 GT Avalanche 0.0 (selling at 30% off in another shop). Only problem is that I have to wait till the end of September to get it. Aaahh the wait is killing me. At least it gives me time to get into some sort of shape. Don't want to look like an ass walking my new bike up a little hill.

Alright. enough from me. You can start throwing the tomatoes now....(big time newbie!). :D

welcome sinsta,

the giant, isn't really that bad of a deal, those bikes run about $300 USD new, so yeah it's 4 years old but you could have been out of a lot more money if someone had really taken advantage of you.

Anyhow sorry to hear about your injury, but it's nice to see someone get motivated to start riding again :)

you'll probably enjoy the mtb forums and the BMX forum.....

Thanks for the welcome.

The bike would be an alright deal if it wasn't so stuffed. Just discovered that the rear wheel is a little out of shape (all this time i thought it was the brakes out of alignment. Might have to see if I can follow the Barnetts manual u guys posted .

After about 1 month back, I dunno why I stopped. Except now, the hills seem a LOT harder to climb!

Hills in Melbourne?? Where? Seriously though welcome to the forums. My first commuter was a giant boulder - I love that bike - tough as nails and went like the proverbial once you threw slicks on it - got about 12,000 clicks out of the girl before I upgraded to a road bike.

In the east. We have the main yarra trail which is fairly flat but once you reach the end you hit Templestowe where the hills are ALIVE! and also in the middle of the trail near yarra bend. I used to go up and down in my car but now i try it on my bike. yep I have my XTC 2 now, so its ALOT easier. I am still a crap rider though, can't get out of my clipless pedals properly, tried to inflate my rear tire on the weekend, but the stoopid Presta valve got me (never seen one before - yeah NEWBIE) and I ended up letting ALL the air out. Talk about dumb. Oh well, learn'n as I go i guess.

The boulder is tough and I do have slicks on it, but still no match for new tech I say.

Cheers!
