The driver of a pedal powered Buick was ticketed for operating an unsafe vehicle in Toronto on October 25. From the description in the article an artist took an old Buick, stripped it down and installed pedals. It even had votive candle headlights! The charge of course plays into the artists plan to generate publicity for himself and his cause.

Great article! What’s safer? Going really fast or going real slow? Makes you stop and think a bit IMHO.

With real, working car brakes, it couldn't have been unsafe because of its size.

Technically, it has to be a four-wheel "bicycle" (quadrocycle?). The fact that it had half a ton of steel junk attached doesn't make it less legal, right?

Well Baltimore does not think so. All human powered vehicles are street legal on this page:

I should note that I did not see a slow moving emblem on the back of the car (yellow or red triangle) which is required on our oversized bikes.

Bump.

Here's a link to video of the pedal car being pulled over by Toronto Police. Check out the six bike cops pull up to check out the 'car'.
