So how many of you are crazy enough to try shopping today? My wife woke up at 3am so she could go wait in line at Best Buy. She said some people looked liked they had camped out on the street!

Not me. I'm working and I also never get into that frenzy. I hate to shop in general and adding massive crowds and waiting in long lines to the experience, and it's as bad as going to amusement parks.

Already a line of 50 or so....

First time in a long time I didn't shop at 5am on Black Friday. Bloomingdales misses me. Meh.

Instead I'm roasting red bell peppers for the leftover turkey sammiches. Plop those on top of the fresh ciabatta rolls I bought this morning and... YUM!

Beautiful morning for a ride. I hope the sleep-deprived, hungover, crazy shopper drivers pay attention to the road.

I avoid going to most all big retail stores the last 5 weeks of the year. In fact, it' been years since the last time I walked in a shopping mall.

I went to breakfast at a restaurant in a big shopping center and the traffic was insane. I have to go back later for my weekly trip to Stater Brothers.

I'd be careful out there if I were you. Steer clear of any intersections with shopping centers. Just driving into work, traffic was light but aggressive.

Why do you hate America?

I must hate America, too.

Riding around this morning, dodging cars (I live near the Del Amo megamall) it seemed like everyone was rushing around like giant metalized consumer ants.

With the exception of a few gifts for clients and children (yes, I do know a few), my family and friends are going to get charitable donations made in their name. I think a few thousand dollars could be put to better use than buying sweaters no one will wear.

 Here, here! Thus the reason I despise Christmas. Truth is, I like the songs and mushiness that goes along with the holiday in small, genuine doses (i.e. a group of carolers singing Oh, Come All Ye Faithful is actually nice to hear). But I can't stand the consumerism-shopping-mentality-gift-exchanging crap that is so heightened and out of control anymore. The other night I actually asked a salesperson to turn off that stupid Christmas album they were playing at ear-splitting levels when I was out shopping. The guy laughed and said, "Yeah, try working here between now and Christmas. It's enough to make me want to shoot myself." I can only imagine.

Wait just a doggone minute, I thought you were getting me Record components? Didn't I lay enough hints???? What do you think I am going to do with the empty frame that is on its way???

I think your gesture is noble. I don't follow the religious significance of the holidays but I do think it is a nice time for people to reflect how they can best help others. To a child, a shiny new toy can bring a smile. To a dad trying to feed a hungry family, a weeks worth of groceries can bring a tear. Thanks Joy and for all the test of the generous BFers!!

I like talk radio too but I am not in a car enough to listen to it. Does Paul Harvey still do "The Rest of the Story"?

He used to come on just before 7pm but I haven't been listening to the radio during the evenings lately. The last few times I heard someone else substituting for him. I now just listen to that station during my morning weekday drive into work. I used to listen to a lot of talk radio before I joined BF...:D

I rode through Old Town Pasadena, but it wasn't like a zoo. Felt like a typical Saturday morning.

I can't stand Department stores, Target makes me sick and I think its due to all the red inside, makes me feel claustrophobic. Same goes for indoor malls. Open air malls I don't mind too much except for the parking.

Yeah, I hate department stores too! Something about the lighting makes me extremely nauseated if I stay at those stores for more than 10mins.

Or maybe it's the *prices* at the department stores that make me dizzy...

Crazed masses freak me out. Some people actually like to get out there and shop in the madness.

I usually just give Wine from snooty wine stores, or even better, have bottles shipped directly from the winery. Almost everything else comes from Amazon.

There will be no malls or dept stores in my life til late January at the earliest.

+1. Makes for easy shopping, especially the part about avoiding the post if the gifts have to go out of state/country.

I stayed home, and went for a ride later in the day. It's just not worth it. Even on expensive stuff it's not worth it, if you look at amount of time you wasted in line VS amount you saved. Specially considering chances are you can get almost as good of a deal online.

I'm a little bummed I missed the Performance sales (both in-store and online)... but I'm guessing that I will get another 20% off opportunity before xmas rolls around, no?

Got a mailer last year, ended up with a bunch of new stuff, including a light (sweet!). No flyer this year, no bike stuff bought.
Managed to get a tee time at the golf course at 10 am (very hard to do on Friday after T-day)
Woke the wife up, drove to Macy's ahead of time, bought her the annual silver ornament we've been buying for the last 20 years (major points here).
Walked the golf course for five hours, all the while observing the adjacent parking lot, er, freeway...all in all a great day!
