Gina's made the dinner for our family for the last 20 years. She enjoys it all, the baking cooking. BUt it is plenty of work. This year my daughter finally said she wanted to make the dinner. I was glad she was going to cook and do it at my parents' place. When Gina did the cooking, we would have the dinner here or a few times cook then transport it to the parents' place which is only 6 miles away. But still moving an entire hot dinner is a pain in the butt! I had big plans for a dinner then Gina and I would do a ride on Friday. Cool!
Dad got sick a couple of weeks ago with his diabetes. He's been having problems with an infection on his toe. No matter what the does, even being inside a shoe irritates it. So finally the doc puts him in the hosptial and says they must remove a portion of the toe. Bummer, but Dad is more than happy to save his foot by sacrificing one knuckle. Eveything goes well but dinner at their place is cancelled along with the karaoke party Dad planned on Saturday. Eveybody more than understands.
So my daughter plans to do her dinner at her mother's place (Gina is the evil stepmother:D). So Gina decides to make a small turkey for just the two of us. I suggest a decent size as maybe someone might stop by knowing my other daughter had plans on driving out from Arizona. Then Dad starts feeling GREAT! He's in good spirits and can't wait to moving around. We didn't have the dinner at their place as Mom was scared that some of the kids would step on Dad's foot. I tell them we are celebrating at home alone but that they could stop by. So Dad says he feels great and will make it afterall.
So now it weems that we have a small dinner at our place. Come to find out my daughter is coming to our place for dinner with the kids. Moma and Dad, then Gina's Mom calls that she has no place to go so she's invited and brings Gina's brother. Then my brother calls he would like to stop by cause his wife never does a turkey. So he and his family plan to stop by. So now what was only Gina and I has turned into 15 people! Holy smokes, Gina has to run out to the store late Wednesday night looking for a ham to supplement the smaller turkey we had planned on. Plus she has to hunt down more rolls, pie crusts, and other items that we wouldn't eat if we had been alone.
So Gina is up late Wed night/Thurs morning till 2 am baking and prepping desserts. She gets up in the morning to continue the cooking while I start giving the place a good scrubdown. Place gets hot with the turkey on and I'm down on my knees scrubbing the restroom floors, cleaning the carpet, moving bike stuff around. Moving the dining table and setting things up.
So now we are both tired but I think we can still squeeze in a ride on Friday. An easy one so that I can still do GMR with the forum on Saturday. Dinner is planned for 4 pm. About 3 pm, Mom calls and says she's not sure if my Dad should go out or not and asks if we could once again transport the dinner to their place!:cry::cry:.....So not only do we have to transport it on short notice, but that means packing up and carrying things back home after dinner as well!:cry::cry:
So we were up late again last night. Gina's bushed! I set the alarm for 7 am and figure we're going to do alteast a short ride. I wake up and see Gina's sweet tired face (OK, she was snoring loud) and didn't have to heart to push her out the door on a bike. So I figure what the heck, a vistit to the new Performance and I'll be happy!
So now that's 21 years in charge of T-day dinner and they just keep getting tougher. Only 15 but the usual is about 22 people. Last night was a small, but a tough crowd!:D 10:20 and Gina is still sound asleep bless her lil heart!:D
No ride today!:p
