:) OK, just got done talking with my Manhattan friend and he described his "brush" with the parade.

"Was walking home from girlfriends house and I had to cross Broadway - which was blocked off so I had to wait for traffic guards/find other way around. Took me an hour to cross one freaking street - I got so irritated that I was elbowing people. Did you know that every person at the parade has an obnoxious stroller there that you trip over?????? My roommates told me that the only people who go to these events - Macy's Parade and New Years Eve in Time Square are the tourists, regular city dwellers avoid them like the plague."

<pout> Well, OK, I'd still like to see the BIG ONE, just once. Of course I would be in it for longevity therefore I'd be carrying a couple bottles of some good drink with me. That would make me enjoy the crowds MUCH betta. :D

I used to like them as a kid, but only because they threw candy into the crowds.

Now it's just an exercise in patience and my ability to withstand cold temperatures (at least for the Santa Claus parade).

It was the best anime movie I had ever seen and I don't like anime. It's called Paprika.

I'm not sure if I could take an entire movie of that.

I dislike parades and fireworks...both bore me to death.

I'm not a big fan of parades at all, but I did see a kickass New Year's Day parade in London a couple of years ago. One float had some kids from the local arts & acting school doing medleys of 60's British Invasion music - costumes and all - very adorable. London can throw a parade.

However, I hate Parade magazine that comes in almost every Sunday paper in the States. The most useless piece of ongoing trivial crap ever to kill a tree for, but somehow I still find myself reading it on the bog and still griping about it. Go figure.

Where's your sense of fun? I like parades (probably in smaller communities rather than the huge big-city ones). The one in Red Deer, Canada, a year or so ago featured some people on bikes, and enabled me to get to talk to a guy on a high-wheeler (pennyfarthing).

But then I have been a father, and that sort of mellows the attitudes towards these sorts of things, and the kids have a lot of fun seeing things they might not normally see.

The small-city and town parades bring out the big machinery (vintage, veteran and modern) and show the creativity of people (or often the lack thereof).

Why is it .... That reminds me of a Fritz Lang movie.

What I like better than watching a parade is being in one.

As a musician, I played the trumpet and marched with the band in high school.

I've also ridden in parades with the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and lead the bicycle unit on Independence Day in one Maine town.

I vote for a parade, in Rio.

I'll second that...especially at the start of Carnival!

Sorry, but I think parades are a complete waste of time.
