I have a chromo fork with a 1 1/8 steerer tube and a 406mm wheel with V brakes. In an ongoing effort to reduce vibration coming through to my hands, I've been looking around for a cf fork. Wound-up makes them, but not with a 1 1/8 threaded steerer tube. What's out there, guys? bk

In an ongoing effort to reduce vibration coming through to my hands, I've been looking around for a cf fork.Unless the fork has a substantial rake (offset), you won't see much reduction in vibrations - because the fork is loaded primarily in compression along its length vs. bending. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck with a wider, supple sidewalled front tire - especially if the the application is on the lightly loaded front end, of a LWB.

PaPa has a good point. I believe Bkaapke has a LWB, and LWBs usually have a slacker head tube angle which requires a lot of rake to avoid having massive amounts of trail. You can't just bolt on a fork that's meant for a SWB. With that thought in mind, perhaps calling Calfee would produce a 'hit?' After all, they make a carbon LWB. Personally, I'd go the tire route before spending big bucks on a fork that, while looking cool, may or may not help the situation.

I would use a different tire and/or lower tire pressure or a Pantour hub. Different handlebar grips and or gloves with padded palms may also help. Although BentUp Cycles has VeloKraft carbon forks, I have not seen any with a threaded steerer tube. The Calfee fork resembles a fork made for a SWB rather than a LWB bike because the Calfee bike has remote steering as shown in this photo... http://tinyurl.com/24f7zn

Thanks for the advice, guys. I have a LWB and most of the cf forks I've found are for SWB bikes. I hadn't thought of that as a problem. I'll check into new tires. Thanks. bk
