I've got a couple of questions about the Garmin 305 that I'm wondering if people have some insight on.

(1) When I do brick workouts, the unit doesn't always save both parts. For example, I'll do the bike workout, then get off, set the watch up for a running workout and then do the run. When I come home, it downloads only the run part and acts like the bike leg never happened even though it appeared to be recording data the entire time. Funny thing is, this doesn't happen all the time, more like 70%. I can't figure out why sometimes it records everything and other times it doesn't.

(2) Is there a way to export an individual workout? Right now when I click on "export" it saves everything I've ever done into whatever filename I select. This ends up being a real pain when I read in the data with Trainingpeaks because it takes forever to read all the data from the garmin file. To make matters worse, trainingpeaks asks me questions for all of these files, something akin to "Do you want to overwrite this file?". ridiculous when there are 100 files it has to load.

This brings me to another point. I'm getting fed up with trying to run Trainingpeaks because the only way to get it to work on my mac is through Virtual PC. This is slower than slow. Is there any decent software for the mac that will read in powertap, garmin and related stuff???

1) Do you use Multisport Mode for your bricks or are you switching between bike and run modes manually?

2) I assume you mean export from Training Center, correct? I think it's an all or nothing thing with is pretty lame. I'm not a TrainingPeaks user but can't you load it directly from the unit? I tried MotionBased a couple of times and it seems to be OK...I just couldn't see paying for the service...TC gives me enough data.

Good Luck.

I think most of the time I was switching manually between bike and run. I guess that is the problem?

Regarding uploading directly to trainingpeaks, I've had a bit of trouble doing that using the program with virtual PC. IT was so friggen slow I just gave up. Maybe I'll try again. I really hope the TP people hurry up with that mac version.

If I can add another question. I am considering the Garmin 305 but I am confused by the information on the web site. My basic question is will the unit work for swim workouts and a tri?
Thanks

DONT!

They are not waterproof. They are water resistant. To start with the signal is normaly really messed up in the water(My buddies said we swam 7km in a open water swim that i think we did in about 20 minutes...I wish I was that fast). They are intended to be safe in the rain. My recomendation is just to have it strapped to your bike. I am pretty sure there is a mount you can get for it. Or have it sitting in your helmet in transition, and spend the minute putting it on.
