Mabey if you could post pictures of you with your current gear it would help, people might get a better idea of what you are doing and thus be able to help.

I thought I painted a pretty clear picture of what I was doing. I like hunting not photography so I doubt I will post a picture. Besides, I need a haircut. Perhaps after the haircut.

I just want to get the concept right here. Is your plan to run through the woods till you bump into deer and chase them down? Never will happen. I can even imagine you waiting for a deer to come to you and then start chasing it down. Won't be succesful also but I already know you don't like to sit and wait so this can't be it. Have you ever gone hunting(not this running around with hunting gear) or talked to other hunters?

Kudos to you though for this most entertaining thread especially where you decide to not bring firewood and then proceed to pick some up to put in your pack before running again. A skit like this would go well in the red green show.

Okay, you're all in way over your head. He wants to hunt, she says "you don't ever spend any time with me", he wouldn't mind spending time with her but needs to have one of his gadgets with him; ie, "The Bow", because after all he does have the fever to hunt now, and besides he's been spending time with her all year knowing hunting season was coming up. He doesn't need the bow to get in shape for hunting, it's not about running with the bow it's about just trekking through the woods period, getting to the hunt; for which one does need to be in decent shape! Your not running with the bow because like so many have stated here you can't run down wild game, and if you could you wouldn't need the bow but a knife. By way the arrow flies faster than you can run (Some in excess of 275 fps) besides running with a bow with quiver in tact is very dangerous (not fun being impaled by a dozen arrows even if its the dull end). To sum it all up, that is possibly the strangest thing ever, running with a bow to get in shape for hunting, why not get 2 dumbbells the same weight as your bow then carry one in each hand as you run, that way when you do get out there to hunt while you are running you can alternate the bow from hand to hand and both arms will be in shape. Disclaimer: this was meant to be informative and was in no way intended to sound disrespectful to fellow bikers, or fellow um...hunters.

TJ, thanks for the kind words. You are right in that I just like to be outside on a cool day. Regardless of what is going on inside I would rather be outside riding or running with my bow. The reason I dont like to run with the dumbbells is that it is not realistic to the real chase/hunt. Part of the strategy is learning how to balance all of the gear while running on rough (sometimes uneven terrain). I did get a new LL Bean carry all bag for Christmas and is has proven to be very useful for carrying the firewood. I was able to carry all 3 bundles and the lighterfluid in the bag (matches would not fit). I had to carry the matches in my back pocket. My friend bought me a new black wallet recently and I could not take it and the matches so I took everything out of the wallet (credit cards, DL, SS card, pictures, insurance card, trek card, business cards, breath mint, cash, change and a toothpick) and carried them loose in my front pocket while hunting. This was more than I normally carry in my front pocket and when I stopped to buy an ice cream cone during the hunt it took a really long time to get to my cash and change not to mention I dropped several cards that had to be picked up. I ate the fudge bar and continued the hunt. I did not see any deer this time either but did see a man alone reading a book (I think it was a book of Robert Frost poetry) but I did not get close enough to confirm (afraid I would chase him off). Maybe he was taking his lunch break during work? Today, New Years Eve and I am going to celebrate by going to the kroger and buying an apple (maybe two) and a comb (I lost mine on my last hunt). I will then sit by the fire (I will build in the backyard) and eat my apple and comb my hair. Times like these prepare me for my next hunting trip.

That is hilarious! You should write books! But seriously I am with you on the building a fire in the backyard.

:roflmao:

This thread has really kept me amused. I can just picture it. Bow hunting behind a 7-11 and taking a break after the long hunt to get a frozen snickers bar.
