1 hour on the rollers followed by 45 minutes of resistance/core work. Good news is that Versus is starting coverage on the TDU that will be DVR'd. Even better is the Sheryll Crow concert I DVR'd today, it will make a nice diversion on the 101" screen.

2hrs yesterday-Football
1hr today- Mission Impossible 3

I finally got a trainer specific tire which is much much quieter. Now I can actually hear things on the tv. Other than that it was mostly mind numbing

I had a huge cold this last week that knocked my socks off. I'm just now getting back in the saddle, and as expected I still don't have the energy to really put fortha real good effort. For some reason, my seat stays are getting this weird vibration on the trainer (on the down-pedal, higher rmps, and when I shift my weight around too much). Can't figure out what I changed on my trainer setup for that to happen. I think it has something to do with how tightly I lock in the back axle to the trainer, but I haven't found a tension that works. Although not havnig it be vice grip tight seems to make the problem much better.

Think this is normal bike on trainer noise?

Ditto, the crit does keeps things interesting, don't worry it will get boring after you watch it a dozen times. :(

I've never heard any vibrations from my stays in the trainer. But my trainer volume this winter has been embarrassingly low so far.

1 hour Z2 this morning.

Just over 21 hours for January (was off sick the 1st week)...
8.5 Z1
6.5 Z2
2.5 Z3
3.0 Z4
1.0 Z5

My daughter gave me Friel's book (there's a lot to digest there!)
and a HRM for Christmas. I'm not a racer, but I'm following his
methods leading up to a couple of long organized rides later this year.

Cheers,

Kelly

Edit: Oh, and 16 hours of swimming.

I hope there is something to this higher cadence training. Normal road cadence for me is about 92-93, but I have been keeping all my trainer time in the 102-105 area, with intervals up to 112-115.

I can certainly tell I use my calves more, especially later in the session when spinning the higher RPM...

I agree with you. I tried to do the higher cadence on the trainer thinking I could just transfer it over to the road and it didn't work out as well as I hoped. I don't seem to have the patience to stay with the high cadence on the road. Still at around 100, but I always seem to be wanting to power forward. This year on the trainer my legs seem to be burning more the next day after working a high cadence. I'll have to see how it works out once it starts to warm up.

2 hours on the rollers. First 45 min was Z2 @105 cadence with an out of the saddle bout every 5th minute. Last 1.25 hour was a solid Z3 effort @ 93-96 cadence. Long Z3 intervals hurt but do so much good, like money in the bank.

75 min this morning. 10 min Z2 warm up, 60 min Z3 steady tempo, 5 min Z2 cool down.

Took an extra couple of days off this week. I'm finding I need that every 3rd or 4th week.

Finally got around to re-cabling this afternoon. I went with Dura-Ace brake / shift cable kits.
Dumped the interrupter levers and replaced the big inline barrel adjusters with Ritchey STI adjusters. Being a CX bike I was short a couple of sections shift housing, next time I'll just buy bulk housing & ferrules. Finished the bars with Fizik microtex.

Turned out quite nice, bring on the warm weather!:thumb:

How was that? Love her music, she's not hard to look at either.

1 hr on the rollers followed by 45 minutes of core work. "Festival Express " a 1970 documentary about a rock concert ensemble making a train trip across Canada was DVR'd and played back during the session. 1970 vintage sights and sounds from the Dead, Band, Janis and others was the ticket.

Kelly, I agree with your assessment of the Cheryll Crow concert and it won't be erased for a bit.

2/15, 1 hr Z2

Accompanied by Steve Marriott & the Official Receivers. Not his best work, but I like that raw sound.

Thighs were sore all day yesterday & even this morning. Not sure why, I never get that.
Felt much better after the morning swim.

About 3 hrs on the new Microtex bar tape now. It's the bees knees, the cats pajamas, the sh*t, the bomb, yada, yada, yada. No more damp slimy "cork" for me.

Cheers,

Kelly

2 hours each day - you are an animal.... and way too motivated!
Myself, 45 minute "Charmichael" set yesterday: fast spin sets followed by two sets of 3 x 2min@75%/1 min@90% out of the saddle, no rest in between.
Today, 40 minutes fairly ez while watching football, followed by 1 mile treadmill @8:30. Is it spring yet?

Been running the computrainer classes at my new center. Pretty busy. Lots of trainer time. much easier to put in effective workouts (for me) using the computrainer and with witnesses who will call me on my bluff.

Well, then, I expect to see you riding tonight. Looks like one or two of the "Wednesday night regulars" may not make it. A couple of us will be there for sure, though.

You decide what workout we're doing yet?

I'm skipping trainer season due to lingering tendinitis in my left knee,
gonna stay off the bike 'til spring breaks. I figure a few months rest and
a shiny new pair of Speedplay zero's should be just what I need.

I moved into the weight room ~6 weeks ago, and am continuing swimming
laps every morning, in order maintain fitness.

You all enjoy your misery.;)

Long trainer rides are all about snacks. I treat myself like a puppy. I reward myself every 15 minutes with a tiny snack (usually works out to about 50 calories/hr). Seems to work well with breaking up a ride.

With this method, a 1:45 trainer ride seems like only 1:43.

Some folks think I'm foolish for even owning a Kreitler with Killer Headwind, living in San Diego as I do, but I love riding on it! No bumps, no traffic, no auto exhaust, no stoplights/interruptions, just me embracing pain with no annoying distractions.

Do they make a rollers version of the Computrainer? I've been on them twice when visiting my bikefitting coach and they are indeed slicker than owl$#it, but I mislike riding on the fixed frame like that--feels unnatural compared to rollers.

I have some mixed feelings about riding the trainer (http://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/). On the one hand, I can ride all year round, and since I don't live in San Diego, it would be pretty much impossible otherwise. And when it's not winter, the trainer lets me get in some riding before work - I can get an hour in without having to get up super crazy early. But getting out of the city, with all the lights/stops/etc. if I tried to ride a half-hour out and a half-hour back, I don't think I'd get in much more than 10 miles...
And it gives me the chance to catch up on my Netflix...although I don't know what I'll do when I run out of season of The Office to watch.
On the other hand...it's the trainer. And it's inside. And when it's not iced over and/or dark, nothing beats riding outside.

No such thing as a huge discount when it comes to computrainers. I just wish they would update their software more than once every 10 years. With the info they track the options are endless, except with the computrainer software. Their developers or product managers need to be hung. Hire me already, oh the things you should be able to do easily!

After being in a head on, cycling season killing, car accident on May 31st of 2009, I promptly bought myself a Computrainer. It sure does make riding a trainer a bit more enjoyable, and I am able to keep the miles going all winter, but nothing, nothing will replace a beautiful outdoor ride.

Well I'll tell ya...
Some of these setups are simply amazing! I thought I was being slick by facing my trainer at the TV and doing stuff like riding and watching concert DVDs and movies.... Also, I really get bored really easily on the trainer and will go to the local YMCA and ride a stationary bike there as often as I can vs riding the trainer. At least at the Y the bikes face the treadmills and stair climbers and there are things to watch that hold your interest...
