My Dahon Jack (http://www.dahon.com/us/jack.htm) came in the mail on Monday and I took it with me on Thanksgiving vacation to Boston so I could actually ride around some. The verdict: a truly awesome city bike. It's light and rugged, and feels like riding a full-sized BMX bike, but with the added bonus of seven speeds. Obviously, it doesn't fold down itty bitty, because it has 26" wheels, but it fit easily in the trunk, even with all the necessaries for a long weekend with wife and two kids. Frankly, it's a great bang-around, everyday city bike that just happens to fold.
The definite upsides: Comfortable, highly adjustable geometry - I got the large size, which they say is for a max height of 6'4". I'm 6'5" and I'm not even close to the minimum insertion on the seatpost. Shifting is smooth and reliable (so far). Brakes are responsive, smooth. The hinge seems to work really well and closes up really solidly. Also, the bike looks cool.
Downsides: The stock saddle is OK but starts to hurt my hindquarters after a while. I'll probably upgrade soon. I'm frankly not a huge fan of twist shifters, 'cause I tend to, you know, shift 'em when I don't mean to. Also, for a putatively city bike, the bars are just too damn wide.
Verdict - so worth the $410 (free shipping) I paid. A really fun everyday knockabout that folds. Anyone have questions about this model that I can answer?
