I was standing on the sidewalk with my bicycle, when all of a sudden, two cars crashed 50 feet away and started sliding in MY direction! Fortunately, both cars came to a stop about 10 feet away from me. Needless to say, my life fashed in front of me again!

Here's what I learned, NEVER turn your head against traffic. Always keep your eyes out of the cars coming in your direction even if your standing on the sidewalk. The Christmas season is here and the motorcars are banging into each other in dozens so be careful and ride safely.

Around the end of November or beginning of December, we usually get our first snowfall. That means wet, slippery snow and a lot of unprepared motorists. Within a day after that snowfall, everyone will be fine once again.

As long as it's "almost" you're doing ok.

It wasn't even snowing and in broad daylight! Accidents can happen in any street and the past 4 years, I've been exposed to two accidents by just walking on the sidewalk!

Write a letter to the editor of your local paper, saying what you've said here. If the streets are that dangerous, your town needs a wake-up call before someone gets hurt or killed.

+1 Newspaperguy. +1 to you for being safe, and I understand about the almost thing - strange stuff that is odd in happening seems to gravitate towards me... so be careful, and if you have a deity to pray to, ask for some extra protection as you do your thing.

I once had my life "flash before my eyes". My life has been so boring it caused me to fall asleep! :p

By the time I woke up, I was no longer in peril!

Seriously, out of control vehicles are the scariest since we have no rational way to protect ourselves from them. Stop standing so close to the roadway... You are a huge distraction for the ladies! ;)

It may actually be riskier to walk on the sidewalk than to ride a bike in the street, or to take any other form of transportation. (It's hard to know for sure because the data on accidents isn't real great.) I do know that I have more close calls when I'm walking than when I'm cycling.
