Road Cycling - Wanted> Cannondale Comments

Ok.... so my trek 1000 is wayyyyy to heavy, especialy when ya start gettin over the 100 km ride mark.

I got a price on a Cannondale CAAD 4, completely decked out in Durace, with a sweet set of Mavic wheels. Problem is, its gonna set me back about 4000 canadian (like 2500 us).

I know thats a good price, especially with the Dur ace... however.. 4000 bucks hurts most anyones pocket book.
So before the big purchase...

Does anyone have any big beefs about the CAAD4, big praises??? This is your chance... bash or praise!!

I just read a review of this bike few days ago, possibly in the last issue of "Cycling Weekly" with a sweaty David Millar on the cover. The reviewer LOVED it and bought one. His only complaint, as I recall, was the mirror/hologram lettering. I am certain it was the CAAD4; someone correct me if I am wrong. I will check when I get home, but I think it may have gone in the recycling that was picked up just yesterday

C'Dale CAAD4's are a really nice frame, and are probably worth every penny. Cannondale backs up each frame with a lifetime warranty, so all those overblown warnings about C'Dale frames cracking don't amount to a hill of beans. They DID have a problem many years ago with racing frames, but that's all in the past.
At least with a D/A group, you know where all the components are coming from. Beware of CODA components!
I think that my next road bike project will be built on a CAAD4 frame. It really is the best frame for the money.

i bought a 'cannondale frame on ebay for 140.00 us. it is a crit bike, i had some durace cranks an 105 brakes , ect also bought some rolf wheels for 200. anyway my point is i think you can pick and choose parts and maybe put together a nice bike for half the price, i am a tight wad :thumbup:

Head D*Alex's warning, avoid CODA.

I have never had problems with coda's MTB groupo, i cant say the same for the road groupo however.

As for the Cannondale Frames, you cant go wrong. I ride a CAAD 5 frame, but i know where you're comming from. The bottom line, they have the best warrenties, component groupous, and priceses. In comparison to many other companies, CANNONDALE makes their frames from only one material (except for the Raven MTB)... aluminum. Nobody makes aluminum better than CDale.

The CAAD 4 Frames have a hourglass shapped seatstay which allows more shock absorbtion to give you a better ride. They double butt all tubing (thin-wall) to cut the weight, and they have an oversized bottom brackett to give you a stiff frame that wont absorb your power outputt. WIth Dura-ace, its icing on a sweet cake.

I used to ride trek, but just a test ride showed me a new direction. I'm a roadie, and a bike salesman (trek and Cdale...etc) but if you want my riders opinion... you cant beat CDALE when it comes to aluminum.

I've owned Giants, Norco's a Trek and a Cannondale. The Cannondale is without doubt the pick of the lot :)

Ride quality isnt as good as a carbon fibre frame but it aint far off. My next bike will be a Cannondale as will the one after that and so on........

Cannondale is the bomb!! I've heard of CODA being trouble, but my friend has two Cannondale bikes and has no problem with CODA.

Something I want to mention, but probably won't affect you....

I was considering a CAAD4 and test rode one first. The frames have very thick chainstays that protrude outward a significant amount. I have large feet and a slightly "toes out" pedaling style. What this amounted to, was a real problem with the heels of my shoes failing to clear the chainstays. Good thing I test rode the bike, as this problem would have driven me crazy had I bought one.

So I stayed with steel.
