I've been biking for years now, but I'm somewhat new to the fixed & SS scene. I've stripped down some older Schwinns and various other bikes and done the fixed and/or SS conversion thing a few times, but after working with the older varieties, I'm ready to try a more modern setup. I've already got the modern wheels, cranks, etc from converting/upgrading the old Schwinns, so all I really need is a frame or frameset.
I pop a lot of curbs and go down small staircases etc, so I'd like a frame that can handle somewhat aggressive urban use, but I want to stick with a track frame, not MTB. I don't require really intense track geometry, but I don't mind it if there's something that would work for me. I like to use 32 or sometimes 35c in the winter, so I'd need a frame that can accommodate somewhat wider tires. I don't have any specific requirements on materials; CroMo, aluminum, anything is basically ok as long as it's not HiTen or some such garbage. If possible, I'd like the fork to be brake drilled, and the frame minus cable guides, but those are minor details.
I don't need anything super nice! I'd like to spend $500...ish. Lord knows I'm no good at sticking to price caps when it comes to bikes. I've checked out the usuals - Bianchi, Giant, IRO, Raleigh, etc. I'm just curious if you all have a favorite or maybe something else I may have not considered/found yet. Thanks loads for any advice.
