Has anyone actually held one in their hands? From the pics, the motors seem to be quite small and compact even though they are rated at 250 watts. If the motors were any good they would be ideal candidates for an ebike conversion - their small size would allow you to put them just about anywhere.

I've been on two different ones. Bloody hard to ride they are, but then again i'm not a great skateboarder.
They're not terribly powerful at all, I wouldn't trust the motor to carry you up a lot of hills. Tons of fun though!

Not powerful? I can imagine any electric motor that is hooked up to 1.5" diameter wheels with no tranny is going to seem wimpy. I am wondering what would happen with a couple of gears hooked up to it?

Well the thing with small wheels is, they act like a virtual gear reduction on their own. That said, since these things were skateboards, they might have had them restricted so as to not fly out from underneath the rider.

Sounds like they would be a great deal of fun wrapped up in a small package :D
Not sure if I would be brave enough to try one out though.

I think that's mostly the issue. When I tried one it did fly out from underneath me. I'd hate to see what would happen with a more powerful (faster) one.

Hahah yeah, I almost had the same thing happen to me. Then again, like I said i'm not a skateboarder. The guy running the store looked to be in his 40's and had no trouble zooming around the place on it though. It looks like a lot of fun if you could learn to do it right.
From the looks of it though, when I flipped it over and looked at the stuff inside, it was just a small scooter motor powering the thing. You could probably find one online pretty easily.
