I've played every version of Heroes of Might & Magic for a total of hundreds of hours, especially #3. If you like turn-based RPGs, this is a great series (avoid #4 if possible -- still awesome, but not as much as #2 and #3).
Currently playing Call of Duty 4. I recommend it if you like shooters.

What kind of PC rigs and graphics cards are you running to make COD4 work? I want to get it, but I'm worried that my PC isn't up to snuff and then I'm hosed.

I play WoW and War Rock. The occasional Americas Army. I have been wanting to get CoD4 but money has been a bit tight. maybe santa will bring me it for xmas ;)
I run a dualcore, hyperthreaded 4 Ghz machine, with 4 Gig ram and 150 GB Raid level zero with dual Raptor 10,000 RPM drives and the ATI 1950 xtx with a beautiful 24" widescreen.

I play Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source at a competitive lever, so I can't speak to their greatness as much as to the bugs and exploits in them.

I have a PC with a P4 3.2 GHZ, 2 gigs of ram and an nvidia 6800GT. With all of the video settings set to normal it averages 30 to 50 FPS. Thats kind of on the low side and I may upgrade my video card soon. I know people playing on machines less then mine but they have all of the video settings set to the lowest.
One last note. With COD2 I had all of my settings at the max and I was getting around 100 FPS. Maybe that will help you gauge the difference between the games.

Thank you, very useful!
I have been playing Fear. But check to be sure your machine can run it smoothly.

money's been tight huh? ^
Battlefield 1942 w/ desert combat mod is fun.
Call od Duty 2 multi was fantastic.
The old Red Alert c&c games rocked also.
This is a must; Half Life 2 and Half Life 2:Episode One

Another cool game is GRAW (Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and GRAW 2)
This game is a love or hate thing so that you know.
One that I enjoy very much as it is technical is Splinter Sell Chaos Theory; sounds, graphics, environmental effects are of the highest quality.
What other than Rainbow Six Las Vegas, the end was somewhat dissapointing, but all in all an excellent game. Better be ready as it is very fast pace in your face FPS game.
Gravity is a new deal in newer games and FEAR does it very well.

My laptop has:
core duo 1.83 ghz
geforce 7600 256mb video
2 gb ram
and my hard drive spins at 7200 rpm
runs on full resolution for single player, however I lowered it for multi-player because sometimes I get the feeling that it lags.
