I commute 29 miles a day on a Bianchi San Jose. Right now it has 700 x 28 Continental Ultra Gatorskins on it. The Gatorskins have been great in terms of puncture resistance and durability. I've ridden over 2,500 miles on them with one flat and they look to have plenty of life left in them.
Well, Winter is coming and I'm going to need new tires for the bad days. I have a pair of 700 x 31 Panaracer CrossBlasters that came with the bike. They seem a little light on the tread and they don't feel puncture resistant at all. Can anyone recommend a good cross tire for my commute? I can fit up to 700 x 35 with fenders.
Note: I don't want to go with studded tires.
Here are a couple I'm considering:
Kenda Kross Supreme K194 (http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/CXTR700CL/TR5253)- I like the price and it has lots of tread. Too much tread, perhaps?
Panaracer Cinder Cross (http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/CXTR700CL/TR6176)- This one seems to get good reviews. Would it work well in snow?
Maxxis Locust CX (http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/CXTR700CL/TR1287)- For some reason the picture on BikeMan's website looks different from all the other pictures I can find.
Ritchey SpeedMax Cyclocross Pro (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?sku=21970)- Looks good and it's cheap, but I can't find any info on this tire anywhere. Anybody have any experience with this one?
Other suggestions would be appreciated. I'd like to stay under $50 each if possible. Thanks, guys.
