Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - pic request: aero brake levers on drops

as it says. just looking for pics before i install my front brake when it arrives on wednesday. i would like to avoid re-taping these bars as they're cheap and will be replaced at some point anyway. sorry if my request is dumb.

unless you find a way to jam em over the tape, the way these things are usually put on
is that theyre slid over the bar and then you tape around em.

you've never seen aero brake levers on drop bars ?

Don't get those Nashbar brakes. I have a set just because they were like $10, back when I used to not drop any cash on bikes. I've tried a lot of different aero levers and I say you're probably better off finding some used, better levers from someone here or just paying more for Cane Creek, Tektro, or Shimano.

You need to rewrap your bars. Unless you wanna just get inlines.

gotcha. i was worried about that. guess i'll pick up some inlines instead then. i like th elook of the aero's better, but i really don't feel like retaping these mediocre bars.

retaping bars is not even a big deal. i am not sure why you are letting that make your decision on what brakes to buy.

yeah re-taping bars isn't a life changing event.

As far as aero levers go, spend $10 more and buy Tektro R200A levers. I don't think I've seen a single product with such near-universal consensus as to their quality and comfort.

well, you talked me into it. bar tape and tektros are on the way. thanks for the link on taping.

good, because the nashbar ones suck. had them on my cross bike, they took one or two good solid falls, and now they're way wobbly.

I put together my single speed cross bike with cheap Shimano Aero levers, and it was a huge mistake. They're absolutely terrible, completely uncomfortable, I can't ride on the hoods for more than a minute or so without getting pains, much less absorb the shock from a cyclocross course. I have my bike in the stand now, and I'm going to take it apart and replace the levers with Tektros.

In short, there's basically no reason to use anything OTHER than the R200A, unless you're looking for "brifters" or maybe running V-brakes.

yeah. i happened across a set of 105 aero levers and got all excited about making my IRO into a very road-bike esque fix, for long distances. ergo drops with hoods, old comfy brooks saddle, water bottle holder. that sort of ****. i set up those handlebars and realized they're all kinds of uncomfortable on the hoods, unless i tilt the bars up to the point where the drops are at a stupid and uncomfortable angle.

if i buy levers, tektros it will be.

Cane Creek levers on Ritchey ergo drops. The CC levers are identical to the Tektros except that they have embossed lizard pattern on the hoods. Really nice feel.
