Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 27 Vs 700

So i just bought a set of white velocity deep v's off of the old ebay and was wondering as i sit here waiting for them to arive on my door step. is there a noticable diference since they are a tiny bit diferent in size, with gearing and all? im sure it will be easyer just in the rotateing weight sence/thinner tires? Just wondering if any one has an opinion as i sit here and wait

Are you going from 27 to 700 or 700 to 27?

nah, 700s are slightly smaller, and you wont notice much if any difference. You may need longer reaching brake calipers but that will be the worst of your problems. You will find that finding good tires is easier and cheaper for your 700 wheels. Good luck.

ya going form 27 to 700.. i didnt think id see much just curious of ever ones opinion..any good recomendations on tires? i was riding a set of conti ultra sports on the 27 inch set they lasted a year...so i just got another set of those for the winter they'll only be on rollers so no big deal. But good summer time nice weather tough tires that hold up to skipp stopping and and the ussuall no handed skiding fun? ideas?

i think i just saw that today somewere is it at Provbikes? i cant remember were i saw it? did you head out to prov. for that nightmare before xmas ride?

Yep, I got a flyer from there. No I didn't know about that ride. I am new to the area and am just now having time to get into the thick of things. Any more rides coming up?

nope i cant say iv heard of anything..except for the ye old bike path rides iv been subjected to as of late

with the 700's you will have less rotating mass like you were thinking, since the wheel is a slightly smaller diameter and usually lighter , along with more narrow tires.

I did notice a little bit of an increase in torque and take off speed when i went from 27's to 700 Deep V's


Many people mention and or complain at the weight of the Deep V's , but like me, you are going from 27's and i'm guessing even possibly steel ones, to aluminum deep v's , i don't think you will have any concerns what so ever.

More than likely you will be impressed at how stout the wheels are, and how much road vibration they eat up and not transmit to your body.

yep you got it right, im going from old steal 27 inch stermy archer rims with no hook on the rim so i cant pump my tires up above 65 with out them blowing off my rim. to nice stiff correctly tentioned strong rims..

needless to say i cant wait till wednesday so i can ride these beasts around....

Wow, if you really couldn't get your old wheels past 65 PSI then when you put the Deep V's on and pump them up to 110 you'll feel like you hopped off a donkey and onto a racehorse. Enjoy.

i was in that same boat, it's amazing to make that transition.

The smaller size will marginally affect your development (how far you go in one crank rotation with a given gearing and wheelsize) but it will be so small you probably won't notice it.

ya its gona be great iv always been one to have a finely tuned unbreakable machine as far as bikes go and this breaking atleast a spoke aweek for the last month or so is not makeing me happy to say the least about my old steeds performance.... other than that shes not to bad...

im getting a set of velocity deep v's soon and i was wondering what size tires you guys usually run?

right now im running some crappy 27" steel wheels with some fat rubber (27 x 1 1/4?? i believe?) and its rubbing against my fork and rear frame slightly.

700c x 25 is a good middle-ground. seems to be pretty standard.
