Anyone seen this? Does it really work? What exactly is it? Is it wishing and making it come true? Where can I buy a genie?

No, but it was whispered to me once.

Can't say. It's a secret.

Could be, could be not, couldn't rightly say.

From the genie salesman at the genie store of course.

I think it does work, but you have to be consciously aware of your thoughts and feelings all the time. I read the book and began applying the principles to get what I want (read: materialistic goals) and while I noticed things were happening for me, I was becoming a total a**hole in the process. You know, like the guy with the $5.00 latte, $75 haircut and Bluetooth thing hanging out of his ear while he cuts you off in a parking lot to take the 'reserved for new and expecting mothers" spot? Yeah...I was starting to feel like him.

As the book reads, you can use "the secret" for more than material wants. That said, I likely misdirected a great deal of energy.

Not sure about the genie thing...

I saw the book in a new agey type book store recently and it caught my eye. Not enough to truly look at it thoroughly, but I think I know what your talking about.

It's like any age-old philosophy to getting results. A lot of "new age" ideas are just thousands-year old axioms rehashed and re-marketed. The general idea is:

1. declare a future possibility, a dream, a result that you want

2. be intentional about your future, look for opportunities to manifest themselves, take action

3. get the results you desired

It's not that hard, it's like anything else, getting a mocha in the morning, buying a new white truck, earning a college degree, etc. EVERYTHING in life starts with a declaration of future possibility, think of your own life's results, or sci-fi gadgets. It's the #2 step of being intentional and doing the work that throws off a lot of people.

For example, if you declare #1, I'm going to buy a new white truck, your reality will actually change from that moment on. All of a sudden, you'll notice white trucks everywhere on the road. Did some sort of magic happen that materialized these white trucks? No, it's your intention and declaration that changed how you perceive reality. Now all you have to do is follow up on that declaration by taking the necessary steps. A lot of people have great ideas in #1, but fail to follow up in #2. Search for a famous quote by Lawrence of Arabia... :)

My 2cents.

I think its a bunch of BS and most people around me who were drawn to it were either
a) Guys in the so called mid-life crisis zone.
b) Women in their late 20s who were itching to find the right guy to get married.
c) Were a bit gullible.

YMMV.

It's not much of a secret, just the same basic age-old self-help book nonsense, cleverly repackaged for a new generation. The secret works only for the person or company doing the repackaging if the book catches on.

Wasn't it Steven Wright who said....

" I went in to the book store and asked the worker where the self help section was. She said it defeated the purpose." :D

The secret has some good things in it that I do agree with. Positive attitudes tend to lead to better success. Being surrounded by positive images and influences will make it easier for you to succeed, however it does not mean you will not fail. Also if you are surrounded by negative people it will make it harder to acheieve goals as well. Basically if you are positive about things the chances of you acheiving things will be better. Movies that are better than this are string theory and what the %uck do we know. Both are eye opening movies that do have some things I do agree with and disagree with.

The thing is... 'positive' and 'negative' are simply subjective judgments of results after-the-fact. Things 'simply happens' in life and whether it's a good or bad thing is based upon how you look at it. An event, like 'a tree falls on and kills bambi' can be judged as bad by some people and great by me because I get food without any work.

Imagine two people in identical jobs, doing the same work both getting fired on Friday. One guy can judge that as negative and say, "Oh poor me, how am I going to pay my house payments, how am I going to live? My wife and kids are going to leave me!!!".

The other person will see it as a positive event and say, "Great, now I get to collect unemployment for 6-months. The wife and I can take a vacation and I can finally take that college class I've always wanted. I can even get my real-estate license and start my own business!"

On the following Monday, the future and life for these two guys will be completely different from the exact same event that happened. That's 'the secret'... ;)

I have seen the video and read the book, there is also a much smaller book along the same lines. Nothing more than what everyone has said here. In the video I remember one person saying that often when people become discouraged and stop, they were no doubt just days away from a break through.

That's the same sort of thinking at the black jack table, just keep playing, it'll turn around when all that happens is; you get broke!

I have envisioned myself stinking rich, felt it, believed it (all the stuff in the book) so many times I could be locked up for living in a fantasy world. Funny, I can see the parking lot from here and I do not see my Ferrari sitting out there.

The force has guided this from me to you. This was what you wanted:

Read post #21 by Danno.

The secret has spoken to you. It is up to you to answer it. You can also play stocks, but not from a frame of mind of greed.

One last thing, the secret has guided you here to this forum, to this thread to read this:
