Kirk, Riker couldn't score with a bar fly within a hundred miles of Kirk.

Picard. He at least acted like a captain.

I'm amazed the Earth wasn't sanitized by some species after Kirk's One Man's PrimeDirectiveTM on the galaxy. To compare Kirk and Riker, is like comparing Gary Cooper and Don Knotts. Pickard for the Captain's Award. Kirk gets the Errol Flynn Swashbuckling The Universe Award. Now Scott Backula in Enterprise didn't do too badly, but he had a sexy Vulcan on staff to harass.

If you're asking me who was more enjoyable to watch as the captain...Kirk all the way. But FWIT.....I enjoyed Picard, and Janeway and even Scott Bakula's version of a Starfleet captain.Kirk will always be my favorite though.

Scotty! Because when he had command of the Enterprise, the weapons were always warming up and you just knew they were going to fry some alien butt!

Anyone except Janeway! $%*&()#$(&(% Janeway! Leave it to a woman to continually mess with time. Hated those time travel episodes. HATED.

Gotta go with Picard although I have love for Kirk because I've watched the original series since I was 3 yrs old.

Despite my reservations about Scott Bakula, I ended up liking Archer a lot. I should also add that I think Enterprise was a great series while DS9 and Voyager both stunk.

Picard outclasses most actors anywhere. He is the real thing. I have seen Shatner
'act' on stage. It was painful to watch. He is a ham, and if you think he's hamming it up on the small screen, he does the exact same schtick on stage.
Blecch.

No one has mentioned Avery Brooks. I give him second place. He's a decent actor.
One thing I learned from talking to Trekkies is that you need a pretty good actor who has some gravitas to pull it off. Picard set a very high standard. Scott Bakula
couldn't do it, and his series died because of him more than anything else.

Kate Mulgrew is a problem. She grew into the role over time, but many of the die hard trekkies never accepted her. I don't blame them. If she had come along later, the series would have died an early death just like Enterprise did.

But having said that, I Netflixed the entire series last winter, by and large, I enjoyed it. Netflix helps. No commercials, an episode a day, no summer reruns,
and the narrative plot doesn't get interrupted all the time. I think that helps for
a linear narrative like Voyager.

I thought DS9 was ok.DS9 was decent the first season....then something happened and I started not liking it as well. I couldn't quite put my finger on it...then one day I nailed the reason. It had turned in to a farkin soap opera (and I stopped watching).

That is true. Patrick Stewart is an amazing theatre actor. He's done one man shows of the Cruicble and A chrismas Carol.

I always thought they should have developed a series around "section 31" that explored the darker side of the federation.

But I'm happy with how Battlestar Galactica turned out. :D

Kirk kicks ass! Come on! Like this is really a toughie! Kirk did not need a ships counselor and he sure as hell did not have Klingons on the bridge! Picard is a pansy! Janeway......pleaseeeeeeeee

Actually Captain Pike was the main main with the green broad!

Kirk. like there's any question.

100 reasons (http://www.pathcom.com/~boby/kirk.htm)

i like number 46: Ever heard of a bar shooter called "Make it so?" No? How about a "Beam me up Scotty" then? See the difference?

Like someone else said, he acted like a captain. TNG was generally very well written, and Picard's stuff even more so.

My favorite B5 character was Londo. But the story was the centerpiece of the series. The characters all get moved along by it, some grow, some die. J'Kar
is one of my favorites because he learns so much and winds up being the Narn version of Thomas Jefferson.

I think I may watch it again this winter.
