Over thanksgiving we traveled and i took the bike and brought a lot of my winter gear along so i could ride. This is a real hassle in the winter because we all know how much junk you have to bring. I was suprised and thinking i did real good at remembering everything until i started to dress and discovered i had forgotten my cycling shorts.

I had never ridden before without the benefit of the chamois and man did i ever learn. A brooks saddle and a stiff wind at 12F can be unwelcome to a chamois-less crotch. I never knew how much insulation the chamois provided but i do now. If you aren't riding with one, you might need to give it a go.

FWIW, I commute to work on a Brooks in non-cycling clothes. The last few times have been 10-20*F and I've never had a cold saddle issue. just sayin'.
