This is a decent deal for a bike that I worked up by combining various discounts. I am not going to jump on this deal because I have too many bikes :(. Actually, I thought long and hard about selling one of my bikes and getting this one. But with the cold weather, I don't think anyone is in the mood for buying a used bike, at least in my part of the country. Anyway, here it is:

I don't know about the 2006 model, but I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about the Novato in general.

26" wheels, Deore derailer, chromo fork... it's in the MTB w/ slicks category of hybrid, but that seems a great deal.

$45 shipping makes $263 and change. Can you assemble the bike yourself? If you can, and that bike looks like something you can work with I say JUMP ON IT! Marin makes good bikes. Looking at the components, it adds up to a good deal. Even the pedals are decent, big alloy cages with reflectors. Even comes with fenders.

Frame is disc compatible. Must be eyelets for the rear fender, don't know if there are more for a rear rack. Looks like a sweet deal all around, though. An "off-the-shelf" commuter for way less than $300. Like I said Marin doesn't make junk. I say buy it now.

45.00 for shipping is a bit steep. Factor that in and the price is good not GREAT.
Overall the bike is quality stuff, OK Al frame. Well designed commuter.
Just concerned about whole bikes shipped via UPS.
Although I've had nothing but great service in the past from Sierra Trading Post.

They have other 2006 Marin bikes at 50% off (then you apply the same discounts). Look like some good deals to me. I love my Marin that I've been riding for almost ten years.

I'm pretty sure that paypal deal is 20% UP TO $50. Still a decent deal if you use paypal, but keep that in mind.

Looks like they cut the percentage off on all of them to 30%

I've got a Kentfield and I love it, but it's got 700c wheels and didn't come with fenders. Looks like that one doesn't come with the Alex rims I'm not too fond of. Not a big problem, but someone in quality control must have been napping the day my wheels were built. 180 degrees from the valve stem where the rim is joined there is a sharp edge that kept poking holes in my tubes. I little duct tape solved that problem and eventually I'll take it back before the warranty expires

Wow, sweet deal. I have a 2006 Marin Novato i purchased in fall of 2006. I use it as my Winter bike. Has been an excellent ride, I highly recommend it. Dependable, decent components, smooth ride. I use it in the summer with the Burley d'lite.

Good luck with your decision.
