Hey all, I've narrowed down my search to a Hed Jet 60 with PT, though I would prefer to go with the new PT Pro rather than SL. Any ideas on who builds PT into Hed wheels? Hed website seems the best though they don't offer the Pro. Neither wheelbuilder.com or prowheelbuilder.com seems to do Hed wheels. Thanks.

Why the Pro and not the SL?

Buy the SL. I have the Pro, and if I could do it over again I'd have ponied up the extra hundred or two and gotten the SL.

Was going Pro because I don't think I care about the extra weight and it's now watertight. People here were also talking up the steel hub over the allu.

Same reason I was originally going for a pro. Someone on the forums actually ended up buying the steel spindle for their SL for reliability purposes. I had Saris on the phone for a while and was unable to get them to admit that the spindle is the only real difference between the SL and Pro.

Water proofing and resale mostly, also lighter rotating mass isn't a bad thing.

You kept them on the phone for a while trying to get them to admit what is readily given information on their site? The steel spindle and steel cassette body are the only two differences on the Pro vs SL now.

HED does. You need to call them though since they probably only advertise the SL since it costs more. They are very easy to work with, and chances are you'll get one of the big wigs who can give you a straight answer.

No kidding? Well, then I must be really bad at negotiating. Could you point me to a link or pdf? I looked through there documentation, etc, I guess I missed the obvious.

[edit] I've seen the "compare" chart, however that did not explain whether the bearings were the same, etc. I've heard everyone talk about how they are now using the same bearings, but I wanted confirmation from Saris.

Yes, everything else is the same when they went to the carbon windowed Pro hub(except the steel freehub and axle).

I'm one of the guys that replaced my alu. freehub with a steel one, essentially paying another $70 to downgrade.

I love my PT, but unless you want/can afford to replace aluminum freehub bodies every few months, or are light AND weak, I'd suggest going with the Pro over the SL.

That Compare chart is marketing data highlighting all the benefits of upgrading from one system to the next. If the bearings (or whatever) were any better, they'd highlight it there.

I just landed a used SL myself. The freehub is a little chewed up, but I run 9-spd SRAM cassettes, where eight of the cogs are bolted together. I'm pretty sure I won't be chewing it up. I'm also going to burnish the dents back down to smooth everything out.

I tried to find the right deal on a used 2007 Pro, but there just aren't many out there, and it seems like they ended up only being $100 or so cheaper than the SL in the used market.

I'll hopefully be building the wheel up this weekend (the seller went wireless, so he reused his spokes and rim).

You must be a beast if you're wearing them out every few months. I'm over 200lbs and put out a pretty good amount of watts (on an absolute, not per kg basis) and my SL freehub is still fine after 2 years.

Same for me, except I'm not quite 200 pounds. I've had my SL for almost two years (1/26/06) now and I have never had a problem. I've tightened up the hub body once and replaced the batteries in the hub once. Other than that no problems at all. I've done plenty of riding in nasty weather to boot.

My max wattage is only 1257 watts though, so I'm not a beast but I don't think I'm all that weak either.

I wonder if mine was made from a softer batch of AL? I weigh about 180 and can lay down the power for short bursts, but I'm nothing special. I have chewed over halfway through the splines on multiple bodies though.

Maybe because the Ultegra cassettes I use only have half as many engagement points? Which cassettes were you guys using? I've tried the clips that american classic sells, but without much success.

Back to the original posting, call HED. They'll let you ship your hub and lace it to a wheel for you. They did that with me.
