Does any one here know of a simple mod one can make to get a small +200 lum flashlight to run for 3-4 hours on high?
With a lil help from CPF I think this may be a way to go:

Flashlight:
Ultrafire EMR1 Rebel 5 Modes LED Flashlight (RCR123A)

Battery:
Polymer Li-Ion battery Module, 3.7 V 4250mAh ( 15.7Wh, 8.5A rate) - Prewired with PCB (PL5467100)

Charger:
Smart Fast Charger (1.5A) for 3.7 V Li-ion Rechargeable Battery Pack

Idea: drill hole into flashlight....run wire to light and then battery...turn on light and go...
Too simple?
200ish Lum light with a run time of about 3 hours for under 100 bucks is the goal...

not a new idea:

"5W Luxeon flashlight such as the Nuwai TM-301X-5 http://www.flashlightreviews.com/rev...ai_tm301x5.htm for about $65 and it comes in a small light package that you can strap on to your helmet. You'd still need a regulated LED driver if you want to power it with a larger battery pack."

That thing looks like an IED.
If you use a regulated LED like this one you can hook it up to any size battery you wanted to. I bet one on a 14.4V battery would last a few days...

The thing I am not to sure on is how to know you got the regulation right...
It seems odd that this solution to "affordable" lighting is not talked about more. Its seems simple, faster, and cheaper to set up...it could look better than other DIY set ups, but it is not so big on "DIY" points... :o

The regulated LED I linked to takes the guesswork out of it. It has a regulator built in and accepts voltage from 3-18V. It's totally brainless. It's like a DIY LED for beginners.

I like it, but I am going for even more brainless...
Flashlight w/ regulator already :)
Yeah, there's always that I suppose...
I guess I got side tracked. ;)
Personally I'd like the extra modes like a flash mode and a dimming mode. I'm saving up for the www.taskled.com nflex or bflex regulator board whichi s fully loaded with features and you CAN request if you're really nice to have it pre-wired if you're really bad at soldering tight joints.
You can also check on www.ledsuply.com and check on the LED drivers for 1000mA with a pot dial to dim the lighting.

Love it...but I gotta stick with KISS...

+ zillions
i tried homebrew this&that. Now have 2 Fenix lights (not modded!!)
they offer a lot of flexibility out of the box. all I can ask for. no foam, no dangly wires, no exposed switches...
Cheers
