Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - SEARCH only returning threads from today

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If I search for a keyword I only get threads from today and nothing dated earlier. Do I have something set incorrectly? I have chosen "any date" "and newer" in the "options" area. I've searched before, always with good results so I don't really know what's going on today. Any ideas? Thanks.

looks like it's still happening, I'll try to get some of the tech guy's eyes on this.

I was trying to search and no matter what I put in (threads I KNEW should have come up), I got "no matches". Nothing, nada.....never got a single match on about 10 searches.

Same here...just posted another thread about it (didn't see this one).
KT, merged the new thread into this one. As soon as I know something, I'll let you all know.

OK....good thinking. Look forward to it working as good (bad) as it did before.

Can someone enlighten me as to why the search function is not working properly and what I might do to get this fixed or is this a Bike Forums bug? And if this is a Bike Forums bug, when will it be fixed!!! If you add new features or make enhancements or changes and they cause problems, then take a step back to where you were, get everyone functional again, figure out what the problem is, and then redeploy your enhancements! Very frustrating! And don't change five things at once, so you can't tell what caused the problem! Just some random thoughts!
I have exactly the same issue within "search" not working...seems like the problem lies at server/BBS end and certainly makes this rich forum much less useful

Still haven't heard much on this, hopefully someone's looking into it.
It seems you can (now) search by username but not key word. Or maybe the username thing worked all along. Anyway, keyword search is still out.
Spoke to one of the guys at IB. He's got in touch with the tech guys and make sure they know that it's still a problem and needs to be looked at. It appears that search only returns threads (posts) after 11/26. Not sure how the server software does its searching so beyond that it's anyone's guess on the reason. I'm out for the weekend, hopefully there'll be new info by sunday when I get home and/or someone will post an update.

Thanks, cuda2k. I use the search function a lot. Looking forward to it coming back.
Last word on the problem is that there is a problem with one of the database tables and the solution is hardware intensive, thus the fix is being scheduled to run at a time that it will create the least amount of impact to those using the forum.

Looks like the search function is back up. Thanks for taking care of that.
You're quite welcome. Glad its working again as well. :)

It looks to me as if there is still a gap missing when searching the threads. Example, search "OCR" and you will find a post back to 11-27-07, then a gap back to 12-26-05. I looks as if almost 2 years is still hanging out there in lala land.
The index rebuild is currently incomplete. The techies are going to be running the rebuild as server load allows. This process may take a few more days, not sure on the exact ETA on 100% completion as it will depend on when they can pound on the database without causing the site to become unusable.
still only getting results back to Nov 26, 2007. Any new news on that?
Last time I heard we were up to about 3million of 5million total needed to be reindexed. Let me see if I can get a more recent update, hopefully it just means we're only a day or two away from being complete! *crosses fingers*
btw: what search criteria were you using? I just searched 'Serotta' and looked like I had a full range of dates in the results.
Thanks for the update. I tried some arbitrary words like "troll" and a few others I can't remember. I guess they didn't happen to be reindexed yet.
EDIT - just tried serotta and it only goes back to Nov 26 for me....anyway I'll try again in a few days thanks

Partition the db by date and use full text.

You assume I can touch the database. We've got tech guys for that. I get chewed out enough for deleting single threads and posts. Not about to be responsible for deleting everything on accident!
