did Explody Pup pose for the first one?

I personally do not care for any of them, but I have very simple/limited tastes in art. Most, if not all of the paintings hanging in my home are landscapes/nature scenes. Have three works from B. Herd (http://www.bherdgallery.com/current.html), and other related works hanging in the den.

I can't imagine any of them hanging on the wall over my fireplace.

Let me ask you this: What is the purpose of these pieces?

The artwork, I like. I think adding captions detracts from the experience. I would feel the same way if there wasn't profanity. The images evoke lots of mental reaction - which is (I think) limited by the editorializing.

the first one is just an expression of frustration. the second one is a self portrait in which i try to go beyond the superficial. the third one is kinda of a more truthful twist on propaganda. instead of "oh, look at me! follow me! i'm so great!" i hope his expression points more towards "oh ****. the elites want to kill me if i don't harm the underclass. the underclass want to kill me if i don't harm the elites. geez... i really should consider a life of corruption." the final one is a joke. i'm trying to get the viewer to be a bit offended so that they start to sympathize with the homeless fellow even though they may not at first.

I probably wouldn't have used a character from a TV show (the little green dude from Inuyasha) or the text bubble, but I kind of like the astronaut one. Bizarre and random.

I like them although I agree with previous post that the captions detract a little. Don't listen to me though I've got zero artistic ability.

Eugene Levy from American Pie?

Dude. I was thinking the same thing! Except Armed And Dangerous was a better movie. It had John Candy.

As for the paintings, they look quite nice. Better than anything I've ever done along the lines of art.

I usually like art best when the visual image is not distracted by written language. That being said, I like the first piece that deals with frustration. 2nd piece - Great self-portrait! The 3rd one is not my type of subject matter. The 4th one is interesting. I like the texturing effects but I'm not a fan of the description. Too wordy. The image should be able to stand on its own, which in this case it does.

My take on art is that it should be interpreted by the viewer without help from the artist. Art in my opinion should have an infinite number of interpretations depending on who is looking at it and must also evoke an emotion. By describing your interpretation to us it almost lessens your efforts ... which by the way are great. I made the mistake of reading your comments before I had a chance to carefully view your art.

To clarify, I'm a wanna-be artist who never can be one. I can reproduce an image or photo very well but it always lacks interpretation. When I try to create something abstract it always comes out looking like mud. I am always envious of those whose mind can allow them to go outside of their comfort zone.

I'm not too jazzed about the text bubbles in the last one but visually it's my favorite. I might like it less if I saw the actual paint handling. but since I haven't seen them in person, I can't say much. I do like the fact that you've obviously given a lot of thought to how they're displayed. Is that stuff in quotes before the fourth one the title? if so, then I've given you too much credit (it seems a little too obvious; good titles should compliment, not explain, a piece).

*edit* yeah, intent and content don't match on the military portrait at all

Well, I guess I have no taste or I'm not sophisticated or something... but I don't like them at all.

i actually like being obvious. you're not supposed to think whatever the hell you want to think. my goal is to manipulate your mind to see my view. that's it. hopefully it's done with the art itself. with the titles i usually hope to explain things a bit and perhaps make you laugh. if you want to think whatever you want to think then go stare at a wall and go nuts with thinking whatever you want. the pieces aren't about you. their about me. me me me me me! i really intend them all to be still lifes (if i haven't typed that already). each one should drag your mind into seeing my view of whatever part of life the art focuses on.

and that long title goes for the 4th piece.
