Is anyone else riding a Police specific model as a hybrid/mountain bike?

I talked a Trek dealer into sellling me a Police model a few years ago. At that time, Trek was opposed to dealers selling them to the general public. Now you can buy them but the dealer is supposed to remove the Police decals.

The bike has a good look. The components are all first class. Whether riding on our nature trails (sometimes pea gravel but mostly blacktop), city streets or sidewalks, the bike feels great.

From the website, the components all seem to be pretty low-end; servicable but nothing special.
The rear rack is weak and does not attatch to the frame, definately not up to heavy use.
There is no way to attatch a proper full length front mudguard, essential for winter urban riding on wet roads if you want to keep your uniform clean.

Our local paramedics use a similar style of bike from Giant, but I think they could do a lot better for the money.

I don't know what passes as a Trek Police model in the UK. The Police model that Trek sells in Illinois is made in the USA with the SLR alloy frame. It uses all Nexave 400 and Deore XT components. The wheels are strong, and have acccepted my curb jumping heavy butt without busting a spoke.
The rear rack on mine came frame mounted and hauls a lot since I added saddlebags.
Since it has the Judy front suspension, I don't think I could mount a rack to the front very well, but I rerally don't need to haul any more with it.
