...at setting a new season PR if I break 4,152 miles by the end of the year. Just too dang cold this morning, despite sun and clear roads. 25 degrees with wind to 30 mph.
But here's where keeping last season's training log around comes in handy. I saw that last December I was able to get out on five rides. All I need are two more of my usual 26-ish rides to set the record. If the snow holds off, I should have the chance at getting at least two more rides in during December...as long as that snow holds off.
No trainer at all yet this season!

I had a nice easy ride in this morning. Come on ... I'm going for about 40 miles on the way home (on my new Alu commuter). You can do it!

My hat's off to you ColorChange. I'm just not one of those guys that does well in the cold. I have no desire to suffer through feeling that cold. I'll suffer up hills...I'll suffer through cramps...I'll suffer humilation on a group ride...I'll suffer through Nashbar clothing in a pinch...but I won't suffer through cold if I can help it.
I am still hoping that our company buys a radio station in Fort Myers like it recently did with a TV station there. The minute it happens I'm asking for a transfer.;)

Seriously, I don't get slowed up much till it hits single digits. Then I layer it pretty heavily. Only done negative a few times. The biggest thing I hate are the damn snot rockets. Man can I create a lot of snot/phlem. Yechh!

Phil:
I'm in your camp when it comes to the cold. High 30s is about as low as I go -- after that it's just suffering and I'd just as soon watch a movie on the spinning bike for two hours. I discovered a few weeks ago the idea of just getting dressed for a late season excursion can be enough to send me into the basement to spin.
Add 20 to 30 mph winds and there's no doubt where I'll be. It's different in the spring (when 38 feels "hot), but not now.
My hats off to all you guys who keep this up over the winter -- that includes you Phil as you work to break the record you worked (and wrote about) all season for -- but my outdoor season will offically end Monday when I take the bike in for it's winter tune up.

Good luck, Hip!
Are you heading to Sanibel this winter? Sunny and low 80s in January. That's the life!
I'm a cold weather wimp when it comes to riding. I hope it snows soon so I can break out the snow shoes or get some x-country skis to glide around the forest preserve paths.

Allright, I got about 30 miles and cut it short. The temps started dropping pretty quickly and I got cold. Too lazy to stop and get off the bike to put on more clothes. Also had to pee like a Russian race horse.

Thanks CyLowe.
...got 26 miles in today in sleet-flurries-drizzle...all on the same ride!
Now 30.8 miles away.
And yes, we're going to Sanibel, but not until the first week of May.:(

All I can say is that I used to be cold weather averse as well, but less than one year of "gutting it out" in the cold has converted me. Now my main problem is that I'm too warm on my rides - I'm usually unzipping (my jacket, you pervs) in the middle of a ride.
Regardless, do whatever it takes to keep you in the saddle, inside or outside. (I don't want to pi** off my buds over at CycleOps by telling people not to ride on their trainers!)
ps. Hi porkchop...welcome to the forum.
