Any suggestions for a place to learn bike repair and upkeep in the Portland area? I'm hoping for something a little more in-depth and hands on than the free classes Bike Gallery does, but I don't really need BI either. I'm willing to pay with either money or volunteer time, whatever the expectation of the sponsor, but would like to get some fairly in depth knowledge.

Thanks

I'd look into the Community Cycling Centers offerings. http://www.communitycyclingcenter.org/index.php/programs/classes/

I took their Bicycle Maintenance class last winter and thought it was great. I've since converted my garage to a bicycle repair shop for me, my wife and kids' bikes and for assorted neighbor kids - (CCC has changed the structure of the classes, my class was 1 day/week for 8 weeks).

There's also the Community Exchange Bike School (http://www.exchangecycletours.org/bike-school.htm).

Take off a week and go to the bicycle mechanic's school in Ashland. Lots of good riding down there, and you get to spend an entire week working on bikes.

Thanks for the responses. UBI in Ashland is a little more than I am looking for currently, maybe someday. Community Exchange looks good, CCC may be an option as well.
