If no real prescription ---- Advil and go lay down, no TV, no lights on ...

Turn off all electronics, shut the window curtains, take Advil, aspirin, Motrin, whatever pain killer you have, and lay down in the bed. If you're lucky you'll fall asleep and feel better afterwards.

Note, this doesn't always work for me and sometimes you just lay there completely miserable, but sometimes you can actually fall asleep.

Drink water with electrolytes (add some table salt). Go to bed and make sure the room is quiet and dark. Keep a bucket next to the bed if you need to... well... Then just sleep it off.

Caffeine and whatever painkillers you can find.

acetaminophen 200 mg
aspirin 250 mg
caffeine 65 mg

It's the standard formulation of most OTC migraine medicines.
Works out to be 1 dose of Tylenol, 1 dose of Aspirin, and 1/2 a No-Doz (approx.)

Drink with a coke for good measures.....no chinese food either, can cause an "oh my God" headache.

Caffiene always fixed my migraines.... then I realized it was the withdrawals causing them. Gave up caffeine, felt horrible for a month... then no headaches ;)

I always lay down with an ice pack on my forehead... sometimes a second one on back of my neck/head. This was the "prescription" by a chiropractor I visited a long time ago. The one on my forehead usually gets pushed into my eye sockets to super cool the eyeballs, and block all light.

Usually a radio on VERY quietly... otherwise I just hear a ringing or buzzing in my head.

My partner gets them a couple of times a year.

I block al light coming in to the room. Dose her up on Disprin. Paracetamol and its derivatives don't work for her. I then let her sleep.

I also put a door chime button in her room in case she needs me.

Gee I'm good :)

You're running about 0.6*F low of normal if you're only hitting 98*F.

Meaning I'm hot all the time. Bad joke.

A hot or cold shower?

Hot shower almost always makes them worse. If you want to try that, be generous with ice packs on your head, neck and shoulders afterwards.

The problem with this is that too much sodium can spark a migraine. You need to find out how much someone's had recently before offering such advice.

It's rare that someone has had too much of the other electrolytes, so it's fair to suggest that, but more sodium could put someone in the ER... which might be a good thing since they can really drug you up proper like :D

Cool compress, dark room, soft music.... that is what I do..........sometimes nothing helps though and I just suffer.....it always starts with a zig zag line across my field of vision and then gets awful............

Turn off all lights, and take a long, coolish shower in a 100% dark bathroom (making sure you can close the shower curtain all the way.)

The key is -no- light.

This will help.

+1000000. After 40 years of migraines, and having tried everything under the sun, including even Dilaudid for crying out loud, as well as that all-time favorite, ergotamine tartrate, I can tell you that Excedrin Migraine (or other similar preparations) is the best.

Pheard- have you looked for triggers? They don't always exist for people (and they can change over time), but sometimes you can identify them and either avoid them or minimize your exposure to them). There are a million triggers, but some common ones are aged cheeses, smoked meats, sudden change in temperature (like going out into the cold from a warm building), emotional conflict (like having a hard time making a decision), extending your neck backwards for long periods, etc., etc.

yeah- I get the aura too- mine is usually a blind spot with a dazzling perimeter around it (it's called a scintillating scotoma). When I get it in the peripheral vision of both eyes (like left side of the right and of the left eye), I know I'm in for a doozie.

I have chronic migraine syndrome? I used to get a migraine 1-2 times a week from 6th-10th grade, then the frequency slowly declined and I really only get them now after I have a bunch of caffeine and then "withdraw" from it, or when I'm getting sick. They are still terrible when I get them though and I take two Excedrin, do it like 300 and blot the sun out, and go to bed, hoping to wake up with out, although I rarely do. Takes me a good 3-4 days to recover from a migraine, but I think I get them worse than most people do.

Punch yourself in the balls really hard 4 times, you will have forgotten by then that you have a migraine.

I've got Zomig for my migraines... which I can get anywhere from 1 every 3 months to 2-3 a week. :(

Migraines SUCK.

The worst part for me is that I don't really know they're coming... I start to get irritable and snappy for no apparent reason, then a huge migraine hits. My wife can usually tell I'm getting one before I do. :o
