Framebuilders - stainless steel EBB shell - for use with 953

Does anyone know where I can get one of these please?

I spoke to Nova cycle supply but they didn't know of anyone that could either supply or fabricate.

Any ideas welcome.

Short of going down the road of payign an *awful* lot of money for a very short piece of Carpenter Custom 455 tubing, youll find yourself in the same boat as the dissimilar-seatstay-material, wrong-welding-filler-rod issue.

I don't recommend using just any old stainless steel for the job, but I've noticed that as soon as the words stainlees steel are mentioned in bike frame building - not necessairly by builders themselves, I might add - everyone assumes all of the 150+ compositions are totally interchangeable.

If you can get hold of some 17-4PH tube (unlikely as it is) you might be just about on this side of compatible.

C455 (the material 953 is made from) is not easy to come by and not cheap.

that's ok - thanks very much for the offer - I e-mailed Mark at PMW and he may be able to do something in 304(?) SS tube.

Thats alright, it was probably too old school, 1 1/8 dia seat and down tube with round chainstay lug area. Came from exxon graftek stuff.

Thanks for the link. I'll probably be getting the phil wood eccentric as the bushnell ebb has mixed reviews.

The Bushnell is fine in a shell that doesn't have any localised distortion from welding.

Your only hope is to get a shell custom machined down from some thick(ish) wall 17-4, as Falanx said.

Failing that, PMW does now have some of their flanged sliders in 17-4 available now which might be an easier solution.
