Has anyone crashed/done a TRI without paying the entry ? how did it go for you ?
I have been a volontier escort at a couple of tri's and no one noticed my lack of race #s.

Go ahead and let me have it about the ethical issues, then tell me your stories if you've ever done it.
I haven't ever not paid, but at $90 and up per entry, I've thought about it.

I can't say that I've seen anyone doing this before. First off, you probably won't be able to park your bike in the transition area because all of the races I've seen only allow racers into that area (must have a number and timing chip). The swim might be tough to do because most races require a certain type of swim cap and body markings before you'll be allowed to start.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to do something like this. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who does this only brings disgrace upon themselves. If you want to try the course, do it on any other day other than race day.

I know a guy who "crashed" the bike portion only. He wanted to race agasinst the big dogs. He "looked" as if he was a spectator just outside of the transition area....when the dogs he desired to race against exited....he just pulled his bike out of the bushes and jumped right in behind them. As he reapproached the transition area....he pulled out 1 block away, and got "lost" in the crowd. He had no number but looked like a racer. I guess he wanted to see if he could hang. I asked him why he didn't do the whole race?....."afraid of the water".

What a doof. First of all, the ''big dogs'' just swam, and still had a run coming. In most races, there is no drafting, so he wasn't really racing against them... more against himself. I'm going to a 5k this weekend and run mile 2 to see if I can hang with the "big dogs"...

One of my buddies (male, 30's) went for a friend (female, 20's) who got hurt before a race.

We were all amused when he came across the line and they called out her name.

The RD was pretty pissed, which only added to the amusement factor.

I did a sprint tri with my parents, and my parents accidentally switched numbers. It was pretty funny because my "mom" won her age group, and my "dad" was pretty disappointed with his time. Come to find out, she actually was closer to 5th or 6th. My Dad was happier about his time when he found out, but he was most excited that he beat all the women his age. As you can imagine, he was very proud of himself.

i would be too. i hate getting passed by women that are 10-20 years older than me. especially when they started 5-10 minutes after i did. :o:(
