Southern California - In San Diego around Christmas - Anyone wanna ride?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I will be in the Normal Heights area around xmas. Anyone want to ride or have route suggestions? I am not too fast or too slow, just looking for LSD miles right now.

Can you drive a little to the start of a ride?

He won't have to drive far from Normal Heights to find some good acid.

I posted this in another thread, but if you have access to a car there are lots of great cycling areas in town.

SD is a big place with lots of different rides. Coastal is a bit faltter and you can hit some good mountains in the eastern part of the city / county. There are a number of good clubs in the city as well that host some good group rides. I often ride with the San Diego Bike Club on Saturday monrings. The ride is open to visitors and we have rides for all levels of ability (A, B, C+, C...).

The ride can be a bit of a hammer fest during the racing season, but a number of people are also peeling off to do some "steady" miles this time of year.

Hi, I've just moved to San Diego and am looking to find people to ride with - the Saturday SDBC ride looks ideal. Is it OK to just turn up on the day? I have never ridden in a group before... Ta.

Yes it's OK.

Yeah. You can just show up. You don't need to become an SDBC member to do the Saturday ride. I've only became a member recently after riding with them for more than a year.

Starts at 8:30am, and the faster group rolls first; A, then B, C+, C, C-, D. By the time it gets to C-, it's about 8:50/9am. You'll get back to the starting point at around 12:30pm or so.

I did the A ride last weekend. Anybody else there?

I ride with this group most Saturdays, but was away during the holidays. I am going to miss this Saturdays ride as well, but should be back to riding every Saturday after that.

I ride a red Cervélo Soloist. Say hi if you do the ride again - always nice to meet another BF member.

Yea i can now only make the ride around the holidays when i come home. Ill be down there around christmas and will keep an eye out for you. I ride a blank generic alum frame and where a white SDBC jersey (doesnt really narrow it down much), and ill probably be the first to go off the front when the ride goes up its first real hill after that right turn (forgot the name of the road, camino del norte or something?)

I am looking for a ride specifically on Dec 24th, 25th or 26th.

I can drive, and I don't mind driving at all for a great ride. I am open to all terrains, but a bit of warning. I climb like a 3 legged mountain goat ;)

Thanks chaps - I might give tomorrow's SDBC group ride a shot. If anyone ever drives over to Mt. Palomar from SD area then I'd love to blag a ride as I am hooked on climbing after a trip to the French Alps this Summer :)

I'll be moving down to the San Diego area in a few weeks as well (a few days before Christmas). I grew up primarily in Chula Vista although I lived in Oxnard until I was 10. So I'll be looking forward to some good rides as well. I'll probably start out with the SDBC B or C+ ride to see how I fit in.

Cool, I guess I'll see you then. I normally ride the SDBC C+ rides. :D
