I've been PM'ing Jon about riding this weekend. He mentioned Skeggs but my cousin and I are up for whatever. Although we are still newbies on the mtb so we're also not looking for crazy stuff either. He had mentioned doing a really cool downhill but going up will take about an hour and a half! DOH!!!!

Anyone else up for a mtb ride again this Sat morning? It can be Skeggs or ? All I know is that I can't lead a ride since I don't know any trails. Just don't leave me in the dust! (Read: Don't kill me!) haha!

Just so you get an idea of my experience (or lack thereof): The ride we did this past Sunday went about half way(?) up Mt. Tam with a total of about 13 miles in a total of 2 hours.

Lemme know who's interested...

Hi Gee,

Would you and crew be up for Black Diamond?

The trailhead is less than 10 miles flat bikepath from Pittsburb/BP BART station.

Driving, take Summersville/Auto Center off 4, south to James Donlan, then left to the ballparks by Contra Loma, where the parking is free and Frerickson trailhead is close by, a short pedal around Contra Loma resevoir; it's less steep into the park from there that at the end of Summersville, although the River View trail is not bad at all.

It's my "homeground." There's lots of fun loops.

I'll be up for an adventure during the warmer part of the day... ...as long as there's no rain!

Can't do Saturday morning but I was going do a recon ride sometime this weekend out in the Marin headlands to try to remember some of the trails I used to ride years ago.

I might be able make this. But for me, it needs to be early (maybe 8 or 8:30am) and in/around the bay area (Woodside, Sunnyvale, Fremont, etc.).

I have a 3 month old so my free time is limited right now.

I'd love to join you guys but I will be out of the Country this weekend. I'll ask my Mtn bike buddies and see if they can cook up a ride around Lake Chabot when I get back.

Seriously. I never show up for group rides. I showed up for X, bikingshearer, lodi, and Siu. Big group rides aren't my forte. This is more personal, unless something comes up I wanna be there. ;)

Spidey - I may be up for that if Jon can't do it. Although coming from Daly City it's a bit of a haul to Pitt. :) But I have a dinner to go to that afternoon so if I can it'd have to be in the morning so it might still be a bit chilly if you don't mind an early ride. But I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from Jon.

Thanks!
Gary

I cc:d Siu on the ride so maybe he'll show up! :D I hope he does since this'll probably be my cousin's last ride for a while before flying back to Florida and joining the Marines!

I'm thinking something like this.

Bottom line, fir has some nice lines, and manzanita does. I can't remember what sections are the good parts, I believe if we take manzanita we miss the good part of fir, and if we take all of fir we completely miss manzanita.

Weather folk say it will be chilly, but dry.

I'm still planning on hitting Black Diamond Saturday AND Sunday.

Give a holler if'n y'all can join!

I don't consider myself especially fast, nor skilled, but I do ride a lot.

I still don't have my bike put back together. Every time I go by REI or the LBS, I stop in for tubes, and end up buying everything but. Plus it needs a serious cleaning, and no doubt some adjustment.

I'm looking forward to trying out mountain biking someday, but I don't think I'll be ready by tomorrow.

Come on now, 700c tube will work in a pinch. It may just leak air more quickly than one that isn't stretched as much.

Here's a thread from forums.mtbr.com that is very apropos.

Before "ultralight" tubes were commonplace, I used to run 1.5 tubes in 2.1 tires.
If they're "ultralight" 1.5s then maybe it'd be iffy.

Okay, Jon had to bail, but my cousin said he'd take us on a ride on an easier area a little before Skeggs. I can't remember the name or how to get there though. (anyone know?) I'll have to call my cousin in the morning. It's about 12:25am right now so he may not appreciate a call this late.

So Spidey, I'm bailin' on you this time since the ride with my cousin in closer and it'll be easier and faster to get back to my afternoon appointment. Thanks for the offer though. We'll ride sometime soon since I have family in Vallejo so I can just take 4 to get to your way. Sorry I'm bailing but thanks for offering to take us on a ride. It's very much appreciated!

Thanks!
Gary

Hope you all had a good one!

Sorry I didn't get back to you on Friday Gary; I went home early from work Friday with headache and yucky nausea and crashed.

I felt better today, and got out for an spin in Black Diamond. It was kinda chilly out, but very nice.

I'll be out of town next weekend, but Saturday the 15th I should be in town; if'n BD isn't mudded out... ?
