Commuting - carbon forks (non racing)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hundreds of lookalike carbon racing forks to choose from, but hardly any non-racing ones.
Ive seen some flat-bar fitness bikes and a few CX models with carbon forks. Is anyone using these. Do they hold up to commuting use?
Does anyone make forks for cantelever or long-drop caliper brakes, with fender eyelets, sold as separate items ?
<quick google search later>
anyone heard of these?

All the catostrophic failures of carbon forks/seatposts/handlebars kind of scare me for commuting... You have to be religious to check on the forks for microscopic cracks. I gather if they hold up to CX use they would probably do ok for commuting...
Having said that, I did once ride to work with my Look carbon bike with a carbon fork on it... Does that count? :)

I commute everyday on a road bike with a Reynolds Ouzo Pro Aero fork. I probably wouldn't use it in a world where I had money to spend on multiple bikes tailored to every little use, but it is the fork that came with my bike which I use for both commuting and weekend riding. I haven't had any problems with the fork other than it won't accept a road bike fender (I have an old beater I ride in the rain that does accept road bike fenders).
I know you can get Carbon Cyclocross forks that support Cantilever brakes and should have enough clearance for a fender. They would definately be strong enough to hold up to commuting.

What are the advantages of a carbon fork over steel apart from the weight diff.?? when used for commuting or everyday recrearion riding

Good question, esp when comparing a cheaper carbon fork to a better (custom made Reynolds 531) fork of the same price.
