Sorry if this has already been gone over at length, but I can't get the "search" function to function.
I need a new stem for my old Panasonic. Most of the quill stems I've been looking at online are advertised as being 1". If I measure my current stem, I get a 7/8" diameter (where it goes into the head tube). Is this a 1" stem?
Kind of a lame question, I know. Any input very much appreciated.
Cheers.

Yes, it's a 1" stem. It's called that because it fits the id of a 1" od steer tube.

Yes, your stem is a "one inch" stem. It's often called that because it goes into a steerer tube that has an outside diameter of one inch. As you've found, the quill is actually 7/8" in diameter, which is 22.2mm. This matches the inside diameter of the steerer tube.

Thanks dirtdrop and well biked. I kind of figured as much, but didn't want to end up with a stem that was 1/8" too big.
