Repeal Day (December 5th) is not celebrated by anyone in this country, yet it is the only day which truly has any connection with alcohol. December 5th is the anniversary of the day the United States repealed the Eighteenth Amendment and gave us all the constitutional right to consume alcohol. Here are a few reasons why I think Repeal Day should be a major drinking holiday in the United States:

We have the constitutional right to do so. How many forms of pleasure are guaranteed by the Constitution? None, unless you’re one of those who get an inflated sense of ego from holding a firearm or speaking in public. Me, I’m going to stick with alcohol.

It’s at the right time. Conveniently located about halfway between Thanksgiving and Christmas, at a time when we’re probably not with our families, the Fifth of December represents a great time to get together with friends and celebrate our constitutional rights.

Repeal Day doesn’t exclude. Are you an American, or are you located in the United States? Congratulations, you’re invited to join our party! Sorry, leprechauns, but Saint Patrick’s Day is off limits. Being French on Cinco de Mayo is about as cool as being British on the Fourth of July. But December Fifth is a day that’s open to anyone!

It’s easy! There are no outfits to buy, costumes to rent, rivers to dye green. Simply celebrate the day by stopping by your local bar, tavern, saloon, winery, distillery, or brewhouse and having a drink. Pick up a six-pack on your way home from work. Split a bottle of wine with a loved one. Buy a shot for a stranger. Just do it because you can.

From my experience, alcohol consumption can lead to one or both of the aforementioned rights being exercised. It does not always work out for the best either.

Ugh, oooooooh I had sooo planned on a sober evening - the last two have been a little rough in the morning ... but hey --- for the good of Repeal Day --- I accept this task with open glass and shall make you proud of me!!! All hail Repeal Day!!!!!!!!!

Its likely not celebrated because so many people drink so often ;)...personally, until I slowed way down, I didn't need a day to tell me to drink...

What the heck is today's date?

I can't get my Commodore 64 to set the date right and the calandar near my desk says it's March 1983.

It is 83 already? Dang, I gotta go register for selective service.

Every day is Dec. 5th at my house.

I'm pre-partying right now with a Newcastle.

Is it 1984, yet?

I will obstain from consuming any alcohol on December 5th to honor my uncle, Earl Farwell Dodge Jr. (1932-2007).

Earl Dodge was revving up for his seventh run for the White House next year and had his campaign buttons made.

The perennial candidate of the Prohibition Party, Dodge, 74, was ready for another uphill fight.

Starting a business trip Wednesday, Dodge - who had also run for Colorado governor and lieutenant governor - collapsed at Denver International Airport.

He was taken to University of Colorado Hospital, where he died, according to his daughter, Faith Nelson of Kansas City, Mo.

Dodge was on his way to Pennsylvania, where he was going to buy and sell campaign buttons and other political memorabilia. His daughter said that was how he made a living and that he had a huge collection, some buttons dating from the 1870s.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Arvada Baptist Church, 8350 Pomona Drive.

Dodge was "always optimistic" about his runs for public office and believed that his preaching against alcohol would take hold, Nelson said.

He loved American history, his daughter said, "and he knew more about it than anyone, except maybe university professors."

Dodge believed the two major political parties and labor unions were "the major threats" to freedom in America, according to a Post story.

"We keep getting evil," from the two major parties, he said in 1978. "The only choice is less evil or more evil."

The Prohibition Party decided to change its name in the 1970s to the National Statesman Party to reflect that members also had other issues.

The name change lasted a year, Nelson said, because the Prohibition Party, now 138 years old, was the name everyone recognized.

Dodge, who was head of the party at the time of his death, supported local control of education, limited government, limited taxation and education about drugs and alcohol in schools.

Dodge had been a Republican before joining the Prohibition Party at age 19.

He believed that almost every societal ill - poverty, juvenile delinquency, crime and political corruption - could be blamed on alcohol. He was a lifelong teetotaler.

In 1978, Dodge got 2,107 votes in the governor's race where Democrat Dick Lamm defeated Republican Ted Strickland. Dodge's tally was less than 1 percent of the vote total.

Earl Farwell Dodge was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Revere, Mass. He dropped out of high school to help earn money for his family during the Depression.

He married Barbara Regan July 20, 1951.

In addition to his wife and daughter Faith, he is survived by two other daughters: Barbara Pitman of Denver and Karen Thiessen of Wheat Ridge; four sons, Earl Dodge III of Lakewood, Allen Dodge, Calvin Dodge and Michael Dodge, all of Lakewood; 19 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and two sisters.

Think so? Think again. As any real drinker knows the Jack Daniels distillery is in a DRY county. No right to drink!

Oh boy, I've so repealed ... not just once but TWICE!! Come on - it seems like it's a 20 minute prep for putting on the bike gear, sigh, then 12 minute STRIP - GET OFF UGGGGHHHHGH! (which means a 15 minute search and hang-up in order for everything to dry out.

But I'll hrave you nows that I've peeled. Yes, I've peeled. You ast for it, I did it - peeled.

But I'm soo confuzed here - am I jest sposed to stand here nekkid - or am s'posed to be drinkin - which is no problem?
