It sucks. Should be a really good/interesting game. Unlike that travesty on Monday night. Too bad most of the country won't see it.

I don't even have a TV though...

Last year they had bowl games on the NFL network that i couldn't watch. College games on the NFL network? Regardless, i have it now and even some of the games are in HD.

I've got it on DirecTV.

This same uproar happened last year. That people are trying to get Congress to step in and mediate it is hilarious. There is no specific right in the Constitution that I'm aware of that says we get to see every NFL game.

If you want the game, find a friend with DirecTV. You should have arranged way in advance to bring the chips/dip/beverages. Now your neighbor's not gonna be home and you got no game.

Bring the beer and chips. I'll put the game on for you.

I said the same thing with hockey, which has a signifigantly smaller fanbase, and it is doing well. If the game is good, people will pay, regardless of how ghey it is. I had DESPISE pay per view national sports. I think it is a horrible idea...

too bad it makes them money.

+1 Frank DeFord's commentary on NPR this morning hit the nail right on the head.

I gave up on his old man NPR rants when he stammered on for two minutes against too many teams wearing the color red about a year ago. He thinks he's the Daniel Shore of sports. That's not the best thing in the world to shoot for, IMO.

It's not our inalienable right to get every NFL game on basic TV. It's a business. And if the NFL chooses to risk alienating much of its lucrative market to gain a foothold on Comcast's basic package, then that's their risk to take. Comcast wants to build up its sports packaging and is risking losing customers to satellite to do it. Fans who want to see the game will either shell out the extra money to get it in the sports package from Comcast, will switch to a provider that does have it, will go out to see the game at a bar or friend's house, or will not watch it at all and take their money to some other form of entertainment or leisure.

I that same vein, say I wanted to watch the Sopranos so I could be in the cultural know, but wasn't going to shell out the extra dough for HBO every month to get it or crab to my provider that they should include it in the basic package.

I'll have the game on tonight so like I said earlier, if you got beer and chips and dip, c'mon over!

It's the cable companies that are trying to screw over their customers(like they did with ESPN a few years ago)

FWIW, the NFL wants the NFL network to be included in the Basic Cable package. It's the cable companies that are trying to screw over their customers(like they did with ESPN a few years ago)

Hence my statement that Comcast (ie, cable providers in general) is taking a risk in keeping NFL network in an extra Sports Package so they can drum up even more revenue.

The NFL is taking a risk by putting high-profile matchups like Packers/Cowboys on NFL Network. You don't think they did that on accident, do you? It's a power play on their part to pressure the cable providers, but can backfire if fans think they are being used as part of the war.

That NFL Sunday Ticket is on DirecTV only isn't an accident, either.

This stuff goes on in business every day. It usually doesn't involve two 10-1 teams, though. :)

The weird thing is that I am in a newer subdivision and almost everyone has a dish and no one has cable. I think it depends on where you are as to the cable v. satellite ratio.

Hopefully everyone understands that when the schedule was announced, no one knew that both the Packers and Cowboys would be 10-1. For all the schedulers knew, the game very well could have been between two teams that were 4-7. I wonder if people would be *****ing as much about not having access to the game if both teams sucked this season.

As for me, I don't care. I can watch it at home on a local channel (as hos13 pointed out), or I can walk downstairs to the bar I live above and watch it on one of their eight 40" TVs, or walk two blocks to another bar that has ten 40" TVs and a huge projection TV. Or I can sit in my car and listen to it on Sirius.

But what you have to understand is that you've got two teams that would garner ratings even if they were winless.

The play here is that Packers will get on local TV in their "home markets" of Green Bay and Milwaukee, but not in Madison or other parts of Wisconsin. This is tantamount to a disaster. You'd realize this if you ever visited Wisconsin. The Packers are truly the state's team from the Northwoods down to the Driftless Region. Not getting a Packers game on TV is just..... an abomination.

Same goes for the Cowboys, as they will only get a local TV game in the Dallas area, even though there are vast areas of Texas and Oklahoma, etc., that consider them to be a local team.

The more people you make mad, the more the issue between the NFL and cable gets exposed. This is what the NFL wants.

There's a reason that tonight's game isn't Cincinnati vs Jacksonville.

Your right, the Knicks could take some points on turning around a franchise like the Celtics did this year. And the Bruins aren't doing terrible.

Anyhow back on topic. I know the NFL network had no idea these 2 team would be 10-1 when they put them on the schedule. I just hate paying for things that use to be free such as Monday Night Football games. I doubt NFL will go the way of boxing and pay preview, however it does kinda remind me when Pearl Jam wouldn't sell tickets through ticket master, how well did that work out. NFL wants more control of their product, it's just too bad not to many people will get to see it.

Yes. It's got commercials.

It's just something that's beyond most basic cable offerings. Kind of like if you upgraded so you could get channels like ESPN Deportes or Fox Soccer Channel or VH1 Classic, beyond just the usual cable fare of ESPN, TBS, MTV, etc.

I guess my next question is, is it HD too. If it's not than its not worth it. To me anyway.

Does Fox soccer show FIA and FA game from europe or just MLS?

Not sure about the commercials during game time since I don't get the NFL Network. But the NFL Network is trying to position itself for advertisers to target the NFL audience, no big surprise there. I would guess NFL Network shows game in HD. Maybe google their site to see.

I don't have the soccer channel, but the daily sports page is usually crammed with listings for top European league games and Champions League, etc, that are on FSC. Again, I'm guessing their website would be a good place to check that out.

I was born in Madison, and grew up all over Wisconsin (Pardeeville, Portage, Oshkosh, Reedsburg, Stevens Point, Weyauwega, Menasha, Dodgeville, Lake Delton/Wis Dells). The main reason I no longer live in Wisconsin is that I hate the winters there. I'm a Packer fan, I hate the Cowboys. Don't assume that I know nothing about Wisconsin just because I currently live in Dallas. I understand that the Packers have a huge fan base in WI. I also understand that a Packers/Cowboys game would get great ratings on TV regardless of the records of the teams. Quite a few of the arguments I've seen have been regarding having two 10-1 teams playing with limited TV coverage. That was my point.

On the other side of it, my older brother, who is a Cowboys fan, currently lives in Madison. I have no idea what he's going to do about watching the game tonight.

I realized too late that that sentence in my post might have been too assuming on my part....

I don't know who to root for, by the way. Can't stand the Cowboys, but I've grown into a Bears fan in my ten years in Chicago, so it's hard to root for the Pack. I guess since there's no way the Bears can catch the Pack, I'll have crack open a New Glarus Spotted Cow, slice into some cheese, and root for Favre & Co.

the NFL network itself is sorta lame. the announcers are horrific, and its just not a "nitche" sport. How many ppl are actually going to watch it during off season. yay for senior bowl and workouts... i think not.

regardless, i don't think the companies should be deciding what tier they want it on, but w/e its corrupt america.

i'm just glad i live in dallas. Go Cowboys.

PS... hit a bar or something... you don't want to miss this game.

I have Cox cable. HOw it works here is there is a seperate NFL network HD channel. There is normally nothing on that channel except for during a primetime game. Example: Tonight's game is supposed to be broadcast on that channel according the the schedule displayed on the channel banner.

I HAD the NFL Network last year. Comcast has decided to make the NFL network part of their "sports package" and now want many more $$$/month for this package. I don't want the entire package, so I no longer have the NFL Network. :(

I don't think the announcers are as bad as the production crew. I saw a first tonight. Deon Sanders was reporting from the sideline and the whole time the camera was shooting his back. Now that is something you just don't see on the other networks.
