I live in Coppell and am interested in joining a club and just wanted to see what everyone thought about the local clubs. My LBS(bikes plus) is affiliated with Infinity, but I mostly hear about Matrix and Mirage. I think Mad Duck has a club also.
I am looking for mostly longer rides 40+ miles as well as a club that has some sort of training program not just group rides. Not terribly interested in track or crit racing but wouldnt mind trying it out.
Anyone wanna share their experience with local clubs?
I know I just need to ride with all of them then choose but I figured I would get a head start and learn a little about my choices.
Thanks,
JT Gish

The only club I know of that does kind of what you're looking for - 'training but not really racing' is Pirates of the Peloton. I think they're located over here in the North Dallas, Plano area though.

They get kind of a bad rap because they don't pony up for a USCF license and can't race USCF races so instead they 'race' the rallies. I see them called the 'Rally Queens' sometimes. Myself, I could care less. I see them as more butts on bikes and that's all I care about. They do however get together as a team and train. I think they've just started doing that.

Our team (PACC) gets a bad rap because we're not that competitive but have one of the flashiest kits in the metro hell (on par with GS Tenzing and Velossimo). I've decided bike racers are really just pantywaists anyway like all the rest of jock kingdom, but I'm getting off track here.

You could probably get what you are looking for with any of the area teams/clubs. Most have at least one cycling/fitness guru who could help you with a training plan. Most of the clubs/teams get together for training rides as well. If you don't intend on racing you may want to find out if the club has a racing requirement before you hand over the dues. Living in Coppell, you probably want to find a club that rides in that area or has members in that area. Good luck in your search.
