Just finished 30 miles here in Paradise(?) -Naples,Fl. Certainly the car drivers that would squeeze by in their haste to get who knows where were scary for that as much as the 60mph in 35mph zones. Since bike lanes come and go, one cannot always be completely out of the way.
I am amazed at the number of both individual and group cyclists that still don't know we are supposed to obey traffic laws. Most car drivers here think Stop signs and Red lights are suggestions so when you couple that with bikers that routinely ignore both, you have a recipe for disaster.
How about bikers that ride against traffic. Should someone going the right way risk moving into traffic to let them by or just play chicken? Since I'm loathe to play chicken with someone who is clueless about rules, I generally just stop and let them by.
Had a group say hi and wish me luck while I was waiting for a light to change as they just rolled through the red???
Another couple almost rear ended me when I stopped at a stop sign before making a left turn.
There are times when I am driving my car when it is easy to understand why people rage about bikers.
I must confess that I did join one group of riders that were quite disciplined about rules and safety. Turned out they were EMTs and Firemen. Interesting... Hope I get to ride with them again some time!
