Mountain - Plains - Good Denver area shops with USED bikes?

Does anyone in the Denver area know of a good shop that sells used bikes? I'm looking for a commuter, and would like to see if I can save a little money by buying used. I've had bad luck with craigslist, and would like to see what I can find before buying new.

Any advice is appreciated!

All the thrift stores I have visited in the metro area have complete and utter garbage.

I believe cycle analyst sells used bikes. Another place in wheatridge named fly bikes that I know nothing about.
I am sure there are other stores.
That and craigslist.

I am curious to this as well. I have no time to meet up with sellers on craigslist and would like a beat up mtb to lock up downtown and pull my son around on his trail a bike.
That and ride in winter.

I have no interest in mountain biking and have no desire to invest in a decent ride.

I totally agree with you about the thrift stores in town, there is not much to be found (unless you get really lucky). I didn't know that cycle analyst sells used bikes, so I'll check them out. Fly Bikes is the only shop that showed up in my online searches for used bikes in the Denver area, but I haven't found anyone that has experience with that particular shop (I guess I'll go check it out).

I'm not interested in anything super nice, just something that fits well and isn't as clunky as my current mtb. Buying from a shop that can help me get a good fit on a used bike would be my first choice (as opposed to buying off of craigslist, and then taking it to a shop...it would be nice to get a deal on any changes in parts, and necessary maintenance)

Does Denver have Bike Swaps in the spring?

We used to have a couple each spring in Park City and they were a great place to get used bikes. They were fund raisers for the local junior programs. They were held at a bike shop so each bike got a once over before being sold.

I sold a rigid and an old hardtail at the PC swaps, I got garage room and a couple of hundred bucks for the two of them and a couple people got great rideable bikes for a little over $100.

You could build your own, how's free for saving money? Of course the hours are limited and it's a first come first serve place... I bought a used bike on CL for my mother-in-law and took it there so they could help me with a derailer adjustment and I had a good experience with them. They're all volunteers and operate from donations see below for more info.

I got my touring bike (used) at Cycle Analyst. It's a good shop with some great people.

Sports Plus in the Old South Gaylord business district has used bikes. Last time I was in they mostly had used mountain bikes and kids bikes. They have all kinds of used sporting equipment actually.

You might try Salvagetti (http://www.salvagetti.com/) on Speer.

Cycle Analyst is a good place.

Lot's of pawn shops around but they want too much. Make sure you bargain with them if you go that route.

If you are willing to drive to Ft Collins, there Recycled Cycles (http://www.recycled-cycles.com/bikes/). But that's a bit far to go.

SportsPlus (http://www.sportsplusdenver.com/merchandise.htm) is another.

There used to be swap meet in Boulder in the spring but I don't know if it still happens. Unfortunately, the Velo Swap was in October...only a month ago :(
