Hi everyone: I have a quick question regarding the hitch mounted Thule Space Station. It uses the same sysyem as the roof rack model but now the bikes are rotated 90 degrees. Recently one of the fork dropouts came out of forkmount when i went over a speed bump or maybe braked too hard since i dont know when it happened. It bent the dropout and required a new fork. Needless to say I dont want to use it again. Has this ever happened to anyone else?? Looking at the setup, it seems like the base is too short for the torque generated by driving, ie the base is now the distance between the fork rather than the fork to back wheel(in the roof rack version...hope i am explaining this correcly!!! This puts a lot of force on the forkmount. I know i had it locked pretty tight
Thanks a bunch, joe owens

Joe I agree that anything can happen but it sounds like maybe the fork was not all the way in the mount or something. I personally use a similar rack system that is made by Yakima based on the same concept - a roof rack on the back of the car. I have never had this problem nor have any of my customers. The Thule system is great and very easy to use but again it must be used properly. That sucks about the fork but hey you wanted to upgrade anyhow so this gives you a good excuse to take home to the wife. Better luck with your next rack.
